Interscope Telling Em to Change Direction...

Postby EminemBase » May 5th, '10, 16:52

I remember reading this info back in November 2009...

Eminems new album Relapse 2 is set to be released on December 15th 2009, and is split into two acts, Sleep talking and Awakening. The first act is supposed to represent being blinded by anger, while the second act represents, as its title says, awakening. This is also the first album released by Eminem to not have any skits or joke songs. Eminem stated he wanted the album to be his strongest album, in case he decided Relapse 2 would be his last.

It also came with a tracklist which looked pretty real, certainly the most real out of any I've seen posted on the Internet. This is back when they were aiming for Dec 2009 release. Hence Em doing interviews back in November and then Mr. Porter saying sorry we missed it.

Now Mr. Porter has denied this is the reason Em changed direction but just look at the information there. NO SKITS, they said this back in November 2009. I think that verifies it to quite a large degree. Unless of course it was a lucky guess but you'd have to be pretty lucky indeed.

Some information that came with this I remember was saying that Interscope told Em to drop the horrorcore / accents because it was alienating black fans and to make more songs like "Beautiful". Now even though people might like to think Em wouldn't do that and Mr. Porter has denied this... Look what's happened - He's dropped the accents / horrorcore shit and his first single is an emotional track with singing... Like "Beautiful". And there's no skits.

I just hope he didn't change for this reason and hope he has made an album true to himself and not for fucking sales. Because regardless of how much he says he doesn't care, he clearly does or he'd just go independent and have total freedom.

I firmly believe Em didn't want to change direction; I'm sure Interscope made him do so - even though Em has said it was a joint decision, I doubt that.

I think NA was one of the last recorded tracks on Recovery, so I really hope that he keeps the emotional songs to a minimum.

Did well commercially compared to anything Em did on Relapse. Better than WMY. Therefore Interscope saw the potential of corny tracks. Most Eminem fans wank over Beautiful.

Well, I dunno, CAB did well becuase of it being Em's first song in 5 years. Just the excitment. WMY for a similar reason.

Beautiful did WAYYYY better critically than those two tracks, It was played all the time on music channels. In the UK, anyway. If it had been lead single Relapse would have done way better. I prefer WMY but 90% of Eminem fans seem to adore it.

I read on eminem.com someone saying that a song like Beautiful only comes around every ten years and loads of peopel agreeing. I To be fair that says more about eminem.com than the song. I think I saw another member post something like

"Slaughterhouse is great. HE has an amzing flow and is one of my favourite rappers"

Unbelievable.

They did better in the charts but both got split reactions.

Interscope would no doubt care a lot more about the bigger picture. "Beautiful" was arguably the most popular song off the album and easily the most acclaimed critically.

I doubt Interscope is that smart, but it's a possibility :flutter:

Beautiful deserves better though, if only they promoted it properly :(

And it's really not the most popular song off Relapse, say what you want about WMY but it's by far the most popular off Relapse.

No I mean most popular in the real sense, amongst listeners not just on the charts.

It may not of been the most popular commercially but whenever you read a review by a fan or a critic, that's the song that gets mentioned, that's what a lot of people think is the best song on the album.

Which is just, well that's not even close to true IMO.

^ where do you think Intercope got their result from? obviously the charts. You don't really think they have people reading every little reviews here and there of the song right?

No, I bet they look at more than the charts.

And you don't have to read every little review to know the material that's going down the best. They can feel out the zeitgeist by many attributing factors and yes they do take notice of the fans.

It's no secret that "Beautiful" was easily received the best.

Indeed. He was the one who made him make "The Real Slim Shady" for MMLP too.

Not that it's a bad song but they forced him to stick to that route. And the pressure from them must be very real, evidented in "The Way I Am". They're obviously on his back about success.

Em would be better just going independent with Shady.

Did they also make Em say that Relapse was "ehh"? I honestly think Em had the final word although I can see Interscope putting pressure on. Anyways, I'm glad that he changed the direction. I loved Relapse but a Relapse 2 would have been annoying. The Refill-cd had almost no replay value.

lol @ people wanting him go independent. Goi9ng independent means he'll have to use his own money to take care of EVERTHING for him and all his artists. Why the hell would Em want that smh.

And thanks to Jimmy Iovine we've got The Way I Am :worship: :worship:
