The Rise to Superstardom: Eminem Outline
Introduction: "Don't do drugs, don't have unprotected sex, don't be violent... leave that to me" That's the type of person Marshall Mathers or better known as Eminem was. The crazy zany Slim Shady wasn't always like that. He grew up in Detroit with his mother constantly moving him from one school to another. After failing 9th grade three times, Eminem dropped out of school to work. He was then influenced with rap by his uncle Ronnie, eminem and ronnie are about the same age. In the book The Way I Am, eminem tells us how music captured his attention like nothing else. He used it as a scapegoat for his turbulent childhood, dysfunction marriage and overuse of drugs. I will share with you the three different eras of the legacy that today is known as Eminem
Main Points:
1. Before Getting Signed
* Ronnie plays him a rap record
* Meets Proof & D12
* Ronnie Dies/He has a child
2. Fame
* White Rapper/Rap Olympics/Meeting Dr. Dre ("I felt like it's my time to shine, I have to rip this. At that time, I felt that it was a life or death situation.”)
* First Album (*play My Name Is*)
* Controversy/8 Mile
3. Relapse and Recovery
* Stardom starts to take effect, forces him to take a sabbatical/Death of Proof
* Relapses - return to his form
* Recovery - The legend continues
Conclusion: In Conclusion, Eminem's rollar coaster life is what helped him express himself in his music so well and relate to so many different people of many different cultures. Just as a side bar--Eminem was the highest selling artist of the 2000 decade *play his latest song (Not Afraid)*
