When speaking of inducing people into "strange" states, I can't help but think of tropane alkaloids.

Think about it...the idea that there is something out there that will effectively place you in a state very similar to schizophrenia. You become totally immersed in a world of psychosis, to the point that nothing can be trusted as real, yet you most likely will trust that everything you see is real--be it the people you're seeing that aren't there, the voices in your head, or the never-ending cigarettes that you continuously smoke.

It's insane, because the idea of hallucinating people--people so vivid that they are as real as the actual people in the room--simply because you were exposed to atropine is shocking to me. Many misguided fools that do this thinking it'll be fun end up in the mental hospital, no joke.

This is naturally found in plants that grow abundantly, and are widely available to anyone that wants it. Usually lasts for a few days, from what I've read.

I personally have no idea why anyone would want it though. Besides the psychosis, it's a toxin, and often leads to vision problems. Anyway, my point is that I have trouble wrapping my head around the fact that very tropane-like alkaloids are found in anti-nausea medicine.

On your second point, I've read some very interesting things about the South American Ahayhuasca sessions. People from the "outside world", so to speak, that have been able to experience this with a shaman and a group of people have reported psychic phenomena. Telepathy, that type of stuff.

It's actually pretty interesting to view it from a psychological point. The pleasure principle states that people seek pleasure and avoid pain, which is quite obivous. People would rather have pleasure than pain, however, there is a second principle that is important to take into consideration; the reality principle. Which defers instant gratification when necessary because of the obstacles of reality.

Sigmund Freud phrased it best ''an ego thus educated has become reasonable; it no longer lets itself be governed by the pleasure principle, but obeys the reality principle, which also at bottom seeks to obtain pleasure, but pleasure which is assured through taking account of reality, even though it is pleasure postponed and diminished''.

Thus, people tend to ignore the pain aspects if they can get pleasure from said product first. Quite interesting to know that the human brain can contradict itself when/if necessary. Shows that, we, humans are quite weak.

Yeah, pharmacology doesn't seem to be the proper place for the term "stupid".

Have you read any about DMT? I can't help but find it to be mesmerizing that the most potent hallucinogen on earth is produced naturally in our bodies...only twice, supposedly.

Good post, Zu. I see how that can apply to Dissociatives, but I believe that it is extremely applicable for Psychedelics. "Ego Death" is a main staple of that experience, at least when you're talking about the more traditional ones.

I found it odd though, that Salvornin-A, an A-Typical psychedelic is completely unlike any other psychedelic found in nature down to the very pharmacology. It's a diterpene, and is almost completely directed towards Ego dissolution. An intensity rivaled only by DMT, which is the most traditional psychedelic, technically speaking.

The two that are most different in some ways are most alike? It's a trip.
