I only buy a CD if I’m a huge fan and I want to support the artist personally.
I think people did find out about NA if it could reach the top spots on iTunes charts and Amazon so fast. Eminem could care less if some old lady or Justin Bieber young fan will hear him on the radio. They would never buy his CD anyway. His main task should be making the music that can appeal to the fan base he has created over the years. These people know who he is. Don’t forget their full purchasing potential made him the best selling artists of them decade. Even a fragment of this potential can bring him on the top in this digital era. All he has to do is impress at least some of these people so they will recall why they became his fans.
Look at Flo-rida. He broke the iTunes record, had a huge radio and his album still flopped. B.o.B has two huge radio hits out there and his album sold only 35000 records in the second week. Besides, radio plays a certain type of music. If Eminem made this type of a song we can assume he’d be all over the radio but I would bet money his fans would turn their backs on him for selling out. His album would flop and he’d be just another product whose existence can end with the next radio single.
.
the problem is, if this was the album after TES, he'd have no problem if mainstream media support him or not, but this is the album after 2 in-the-row disappointment (Encore & Relapse), he hasn't have a signature song in forever. He has lots of fans, YES, but a lot of them either thought he fell off long time ago or don't even know he has new stuff out. He needs hit to mark his "comeback", something that when people look back they'll have to mention it. It's not like because people bought his old albums they'll have to buy his new ones as well. A lot of people haven't caught him on the radar since his comeback.
also, if he managed to stay on hot100 top 10 for a long time, there would be no problem, but if he's only #1 for 1 week then fall off the face of the earth then nobody would even remember it was a #1 (see CAB). Longevity>>>>
about Florida & b.o.b, they have very low first week sale cuz they don't have a fanbase, but their hits gonna keep them on the chart for a long ass time. I mean Florida sold like 50k first week but he continued to sell constantly over 500k last year, while Em opened HUGE first week but declined fast & disappear off the chart in no time. See BEP for another example, open with 300k first week but already surpassed Em in sale. Again Longevity>>>
NA is great, a 9/10 from me personally but I always said t's not really first single material since it's not upbeat enough, I'd label it as a "mid-tempo ballad" actually.14Shots wrote:i read your reply and genuinely thought you were mentally retarded. then i realized you are a female. that explains it.
you do realize that even though eminem would have to pay to promote his own artists, it would MORE than be made up by him getting a MUCH larger share of the profits right?
you do realize artists like Raekwon, Tech N9ne etc. (who arent even in the same atmosphere as eminem when it comes to net worth and whose CD's sell MUCH less) do this and make profit right?
you realize that eminem is worth in excess of 100 million dollars right?
i cant believe you actually think eminem could lose $100,000,000 and be broke if he decided to go indie.
what? Raekwon & Tech N9ne pay for the whole label now?I already said if's not just about him & himself, it's about the whole label going indie. He can & will be fine if he's ALONE, but he's not. And lol if you think d12, cashis, SH gonna make him ANY profit that more than the promo money. Seriously
I did exaggerated the "broke" part though, more like it's gonna do him worse than better.
yep they do. raekwon did 68k first week on his last album and that was monster for a an indie. he made a ton of money off that album with very low sales.
it takes very little cd sales to make a profit on an indie label. d12 alone would be enough for eminem to ensure a profit even if SH and Cashis completely bombed.

ok I have high standard then. I believe Em has high standard too, he wants more and more people listen to his music as possible, not just "inside the core fanbase"
