I mostly agree with McMaybe
but the really important question for me is: is it really neccessary to stil debate this question? are we still asking this? he's dead since 60 years now, the war's over and Germany has still the payback (eg carrying for old people and ill old people, difference between west and east, image in the rest of the world)
I mean, I'm 20 years old, I never felt any results from the war personally
'til I wanted to do an student exchange to scotland. didn't take place cause we could've been nazis (who the fuck really thinks that?!)
'til my Dad told me his father was a british soldier left back from the war and the seperation, who went back to Britain when my Dad was a kid (I never got to know any of my (great-)grandparents)
'til I learned in school how bad we Germans are and how shameful it is to be born here
'til I learned in school I can never be proud of the culture I was raised with
'til I realised we are calibrated to see only evil and bad things, if anything good is told about Germany, and that we have to dismiss it instantly
'til I was bored to learn every semester about WWII again and again and again - and only all the bad things that happens. Hitler was one of many many people who had the fantasy of an unified Germany (as before that never took place, there were just little territorial kingdoms) - he just went crazy
I mean, we even cencored our own national anthem because it could be missunderstood because of that was the nazis did
it was just written from someone who thought, the German culture should have its own place in European life/culture. from the 18th century 'german' men, intelectuells and other ones had the thought, that there is a German culture and that we should care and, the tried to emancipate the idea of an unified Germany because they were sick to search for the role models in France or England or in ancient cultures
Hitler was just someone who overdid this idea and I'm sick of debating if he was evil or not
we all know the results and what damage he and his fellowers caused - what difference does it make if we state Hitler as "evil" or not? does that change any thing?
no, it does not
he influenced History and he still influences the lifes of people and as long as there are still idiot asking stupid questions like that, this chapter will never be closed
I'm waiting that the world closes this chapter finally.
Just a murderous Impulse!
