After Hearing Recovery I Listened to TES Again...

Postby GEMATRIA12 » Jun 9th, '10, 16:50

ok so i had recovery on repeat last 2 days, and really liked it,amazing album.

i decided to listen to TES again, after not hearing it for a while, and after hearing it again,im sorry to say,
Recovery doesn't come close.

While Recovery's Lyrical content, is amazing,
its missing the passion, the wit, beats, and layers TES has,Recovery kind of sounds like Em is just rapping on a bunch of Remixes done by other artists,

what made Eminem, stand out as an artist, besides for his writing skills, was his unique style,
which feels like its missing on Recovery,

Recovery Is an amazing Rap album, but a sub par Eminem album,it also doesnt have the mainstream appeal, That TES had. I think part of the problem is,that Eminem has always been at his best when he had something he wanted to say, or a point to prove, thats why TES was so great,he's really speaking from the heart,i dont get that feeling as much on Recovery,i dont know if its just because hes changed,or he doesnt feel he has to say something,or a mix of both.

Bottom line is, Recovery is a Great album, but doesnt come close to TES,or even MMLP.

next album i hope he does the entire thing himself, from production an on.

Thats your opinion, funny most think this was his most mainstream album to date. I think it's on par with both mmlp and the. But that's my opinion.

it will likely top MMLP for me but not TES
Recovery has everything from every other one of his album IMO so it's like a super album

I'm only entertaining you
My goal is to stimulate, making you high
And take you and I
To a place you can't see
But I believe you can fly
I don't mean nobody harm, I'm just partying
I'm not your dad, not your mom, not your guardian
Just a man who's on the mic
So let me entertain you...

i think its mainstream as far as that its talking about love and tha tit had other artists etc.
but as catchy or easy to listen to,i think TES was way more mainstream...

I totally agree. It just doesn't top MML or TES. Still an excellent record that I'm definitely buying.

I feel similar. I re listened to TES and MMLP and I feel that while Recovery is an amazing album, there was just some spark or genius that he had in those 2 albums that make them on a whole other level. Recovery has everything those two (lyrics, emotion, etc.) had except that little extra wit/genius/whatever it was TES & MMLP had to make it on that scale. So, while, I think it comes relatively close, those two still beat it. Granted, it's still a great album w/ a lot of replay value to me, and I'd place it above SSLP & below MMLP/TES.

If you compare it song by song, Recovery trumps The Eminem Show. Nostalgia is playing a big factor on some of you. It will take a few years and dozens upon dozens of listens to see that Recovery is the superior album.

I made a quick comparison song by song (in order), and seriously, Recovery stumps over TES, and I fucking love TES:

White America vs Cold Wind Blows: WA
Business vs Talkin' To Myself: TtM
Cleanin' Out My Closet vs On Fire: CoMC
Square Dance vs WTP: WTP
Soldier vs Going Through Changes: GTC
Say Goodbye Hollywood vs Not Afraid: NA
Drips vs Seduction: Seduction
Without Me vs No Love: NL
Sing for the Moment vs Spacebound: Tie
Superman vs Cinderella Man: CM
Hailie's Song vs 25 to Life: 25
When The Music Stops vs So Bad: SB
Say What You Say vs Almost Famous: AF
Till I Collapse vs Love the Way you Lie: TiC
My Dad's gone Crazy vs You are Never Over: YANO

Sure, comparing some songs with others is like apples to oranges, but still, Recovery feels better balanced and, like I said before, almost filler free.
