As far as public response goes, I think in America and a few other places it'd be similar to MJ. Worldwide it wouldn't be as big as Mike but that's an unfair comparison. Bottom line is that Em is the most iconic rapper of all-time. You can argue all day about who the best MC is but there really shouldn't be any debate about who's the biggest.
The most important part, of course, is how it'd hit his girls. That was probably his biggest motivation to get back on his feet
