American Icon

Do you consider Eminem as a US icon? Like Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra, et cetera

Yes. He's undoubtedly the most well known rapper not just in America but in the world. That's not even debatable. His name is bigger than Pac and Biggie, no matter who you think the "best" MC is. I think he reached iconic status with his success in the last decade, and still going strong.
Caution to the wind, complete freedom. Look at these rappers, how I treat 'em, so why the fuck would I join 'em when I beat 'em?

Nah.. Generally speaking, outside of his fanbase he's more hated than loved.

At least I think so.

I don't think that would make him less of an icon though even if it was true.

Well first of all, the majority of the human population (or even just American population for that matter) is neither an Eminem fan nor hater. That being said, Eminem is easily the most well known rapper in the world and the biggest selling artist in America in the past decade. Enough for me to say he's attained iconic status. Although if he's not one, then NO rapper is.

Also adding that he's the biggest selling rap artist of all-time according to current certifications. The mainstream success speaks for itself in reference to whether or not he's an icon.

Eh, times are changing. Turn on your local hit music station and it's mostly black music.
