Recovery by a mile imo. The metaphors and punchlines (apart from a couple weird ones) are crazy.

Which is better - This thread or the other one with the exact same title that's probably within a few threads of this?

It's hard to say because of that accent. It takes away from everything. Lyrically, Relapse is a lot tighter than people give it credit for, but he says some crazy stuff on Recovery. I think Recovery beats it out.

Being lyrical is such a broad thing though.

Subject matter is part of being lyrical, rhyming is part of being lyrical, as is flow.

Rvy has better storytelling and is probably better written (bar Deja Vu & SWA). Also has the witty-ness Relapse lacked.

Relapse is better flow-wise though. More variety to me.

Rhyme-wise it's hard to judge but it's easier to rap about fictional things. Then again, Deja Vu proved he can do that on Relapse. Overall, based on the entier album and not individual songs I think he rhymes better on Rvy. Only just though

So probably Rvy overally.

See, when I talk about being lyrical I'm talking about rhyme structure, multies.. and I guess delivery because that can make non-rhymes rhyme. But nothing like flow or anything like that.

Being lyrically for me includes pretty much anything in the way of the use of words.

You wouldn't include subject matter in being lyrical?

Recovery is just overall a better album. The lyrics are better and the production is insane.

Nah.. I use a few separate things to decide how good I think an emcee is.

1) Lyricism - Wordplay, Multi's, Rhyme structure and partially delivery
2) Flow & Delivery
3) Story-telling/Subject Matter
4) Concept tracks - and how good they are at pulling them off
5) Battle tracks - and how good they are at pulling them off

And I consider them all totally separate abilities. Relapse showed off number 1 and 4.. I guess you could say 3 too, but I prefer relatable stories. Recovery shows off numbers 2 better, although it does show the others, but Em definitely used his flow and delivery to the max on this album.

Edit: Also, I have those numbered in rank of how important I think they are.

Relapse is better rhyme-wise but Recovery is better lyrically, BLAOW!!!
Same sword they knight you they gon' good night you with
Sh.., Thats' only half if they like you
That ain't even the half what they might do
Don't believe me, ask Michael
See Martin, see Malcolm
You see Biggie, see Pac, see success and its outcome
See Jesus, see Judas; see Caesar, see Brutus
See success is like suicide
Suicide, it's a suicide
If you succeed, prepare to be crucified

I honestly think Recovery has the better rhyme schemes and wordplay, and this is coming from someone who loves Relapse, isn't bothered by the accents and listened to songs from that album on a regular basis before Recovery came out.
Caution to the wind, complete freedom. Look at these rappers, how I treat 'em, so why the fuck would I join 'em when I beat 'em?
