I feel everyone's posting good things about Rvy. Just little things I pick up on.

Anyway, heres my review of Rvy - viewtopic.php?f=52&t=89523 - you can't say that's negative.

Kinda off topic, but any negativity you post makes such a refreshing change from the all out praise.

Exactly. I don't get how it's fine for people to point some tiny minscule detail that they like then everyone to be like "yo that's dope, yeah Em is spitting fire", yet when I see something miniscule that's bad everyone's like " :facepalm stop reading into it too much you fuckin' idiot, everyone does it in rap, stop being negative, man, this album is a classic, yeah, dope shit"

Because the majority of this Forum consists of Stan-like fans. I would even go so far to dub them as Stans, but, hey, I already got hate once for making a Stan-dictionary thread...

I loved that Stanionary thread, lol.

On topic, I feel that this double negative was, tbh, unnecessary. Sometimes it helps flow/rhymes, but I think it coulda been left out.

I get what your saying and all. It's just not a big enough deal to make a thread about. Or that's how most people look at it. Just enjoy the record. No need to look that deep into it.

But it's fine to make a thread about every single little positive detail?

Caution to the wind, complete freedom. Look at these rappers, how I treat 'em, so why the fuck would I join 'em when I beat 'em?

"I don't believe that nobody cannot swear." - Eminem. :coffee:

"I don't owe nobody in my family nothin'." - Eminem

There's some triple negatives for ya if you think that double negative was bad.
"So one last time, I'm back, 'fore it fades into black and it's all over, behold the final chapter in the saga, trying to recapture that lightning trapped in a bottle twice, the magic that started it all...tragic portrait of an artist tortured....trapped in his own drawings..." - Bruce.

True, but those 2 are interviews, where he's just speaking. Plus those are used by regular people quite alot.

25 To Life is a mature track with a clever meaning and metaphor. Just weird he left that in there. It;s not even a regular double negative.

I agree, it's an awful double-negative.

But the fact he obviously sat down and wrote it and mulled over it and producers etc. heard it and it was left though makes me think he doesn't consider it a mistake.

I've realized a handful of really bad grammar issues in some of his lyrics but have come to the conclusion it's because of his Detroit grammar. Urban areas develop ways of speaking unconventional to traditional / current 'correct' English grammar and I think it's simply one of those things.

Because on like... "Cum on Everybody" he says "I'm bored out of my gourd, so I took a hammer" - I'M (I AM) = Present tense and TOOK = past tense. The tenses are mixed up so technically it makes no sense BUT, again, I think this is correct to him, given the grammar rules of how people around him speak.

Because they say "I'm" as in, say he's telling a story like "so I'm sat there and I do x y z" so it can be used in a past tense way too. I have similar like... 'mistakes' from the city I live in. IN reality they're only mistakes if you consider the conventional rules of a certain sect of English right and everything else wrong. Like Pinker says, language was the first Wikipedia. In that, languages are collective efforts which work themselves out, there are no matter of fact, never to be questioned rules, aside from what we recognize as the widespread norm at any given time.

In reality, all dialects are as valid as each other and aside from certain universals inherent in all forms of communication - It's ridiculous in theory to try and state solid ground rules as unquestionable fact in language. As they're constantly changing, morphing and being replaced coincident with the Zeitgeist.
