Who were Eminem influences as I know Run D.M.C and LL Cool J but who were the others. As he he done the Run D.M.C Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame thing and then tribute at Def Jam 25 Years for LL Cool J "Rock The Bells". I heard him say The Beastie boys before and Rakim?

Redman is an obvious influence. Maybe one of the biggest. Even to the point of... In the song "Underground" when Em is fighting with horror characters - Redman did this on his first album.

Also early on, A Tribe Called Quest. You can even hear Em pay homage / re-work a few lines on Infinite. He's had a lot of influences.

He's basically a mesh of all his biggest influences... But, he embodies the elements of ALL of them AND brings a million new things to the table. And does it all in a million different styles. Just proving what a phenomenal talent he is. There really isn't any other rapper who does that to such an extreme extent.

For the personal, reflective aspect of his lyrics: Tupac

I'll add Masta Ace for storytelling. You can tell the influence Em got from him.

” When I was 9 years old, my uncle put me on to the Breakin’ soundtrack. The first rap song I ever heard was Ice-T, ‘Reckless.’ From L.L. to the Fat Boys, and all that shit, I was fascinated. When L.L. first came out with I’m Bad, I wanted to do it, to rhyme. Standing in front of the mirror, I wanted to be like L.L.”

slick rick

NWA
“It was an honor to hear the words out of Dre’s mouth that he liked my shit. Growing up, I was one of the biggest fans of N.W.A, from putting on the sunglasses and looking in the mirror and lip-synching to wanting to be Dr. Dre, to be Ice Cube. This is the biggest hip-hop producer ever.”

Nas and AZ
Eminem released his debut album, Infinite, in 1996. Desperate to be embraced by the Motor City’s hip-hop scene, Eminem rapped in such a manner that he was accused of sounding like Nas and AZ

Yeah, I think Slick Rick is where he got the story telling aspect from.
