I just read that before I came here. I can appreciate some comments, in a way Em is weaker than ever but at the same time, many things the guy says aren't valid to me.

First and foremost, everybody is putting FAR too much weight on Em's pop-culture references now. They keep hounding on about if people he's mentioning are 'current' enough. Like in this article for example they take the fact he mentioned Brooke Hogan and point it out sarcastically like "ahaha yep, he's mentioning that loser, how out of touch is this guy".

But they're fucking morons as they don't realize Eminem isn't placing nearly half as much weight on these references as they are. Like he said in 2009, it's like picking names out of a hat and if your name happens to rhyme with something good... There ya go. It doesn't fucking matter if they're thee most current / relevant person at this time, how rich or famous they are, what they've done - He's just pointlessly rattling off names of this time that happen to fit into his rhyme scheme.

Also, part the reason he's doing it is to encapsulate people / things of this time into his album so it's like a little time capsule you can look back on in 20 years and know what was going on. But it doesn't fucking matter at all how important those people he's mentioning are, he may as well be rattling off colours and numbers, the fact he's saying names is just because they exist NOW. But other than that, it's meaningless. Whether they're kings and queens or yesterday's fish shop paper news... Who gives a fuck.

And if you're listening to Eminem albums for fucking REFERENCES anyway then what the fuck are you doing. I mean honestly, what loser needs a rapper to keep them informed on current events. Go to the news, keep yourself informed. I'm not listening to music albums to get lectured on what's new in the world. I couldn't give two shits who the fuck Em is mentioning, it's by the by. All I care about is his rhyme schemes, his wit, his delivery. Things that actually matter in his lyricism / music. Whether the people he mentions are THEE most relevant at that time or not I couldn't give a fuck.

Honestly, seeing critics go on (and on and on) about references is getting REALLY annoying now. It doesn't fucking matter, focus on aspects that do.

As for the rest of it, I echo what another member said in that he just says it's 'bad' without justifying as to why. Says X isn't clever but doesn't give an example of something that would be clever or the type of thing Em should be doing in his opinion. So that's pointless, why the fuck is he yelling at air.
