I think the main reason it was accepted with such mixed reviews is because it was supposed to be his COMEBACK album, and it was in another world basically and not easily listenable by the average music listener. People were all turned off by the accent, and saying "after 5 years, this is what you sound like?".

However, to real fans of music that actually listen to everything and respect it for what it was, Relapse could very well go down as a classic album. It takes a certain mood to want to throw on Relapse or Refill era Eminem, but when I'm in that mood, that is some of the best music ever created. Stay Wide Awake, Buffalo Bill .. on another level.

Relapse fucking sucks. If you think that was a lyrical masterpiece you need to rethink the word lyrical

I keep hearing people talk shit about relapse but all i see is that the "accent" doesn't appeal to mainstream "radio". Because other than that, it's a lyrical masterpiece, and the accent even allowed him to rhyme words that usually don't rhyme. not to mention that he states on the album that proof likes it when he goes all out crazy like that. So why so much hate? I enjoyed relapse very much, supported it all the way, but i feel as if em just "shit on me" when he disses his own album in Recovery. I haven't seen much discussion about this, am i the only one that believes relapse was great, and em shouldn't have doubted his work?

I totally agree with you, [Long post coming up]

So for that reason I just can't appreciate Recovery fully. In my opinion, Recovery is a MUCH better album than Relapse, but for some reason it just feels fake, although it has emotion I just can't connect with it cuz it doesn't feel real.

When Relapse came out, Eminem was saying how he was done with all the whining and heavy stuff that he was a new person and wanted to do the fuck he wanted to do. He probably thought the accent was a dumb thing, but that's what he felt like doing.

That's why Relapse feels authentic, cuz when an artist decide to do something they truly feel, it just sounds better. If you listen to Relapse, you can feel that the artist is just comfortable in his self.

Couple months after Relapse drops, fans and critics are complaining he isn't doing things they can relate, there's no serious emotional song. So he goes back on his words (sorta) and does like a half an album with some more personal heavy stuff, when he says he was done with that.

That's why , even if Going Through Changes is an amazing song, it has no feel, because just the fact that I know that he went in the studio with the state of mind "Ok, I gotta do something personal for the fans", it just throws me off, it sounds force.

So I like Deja Vu much better than GTC, because he doesn't whine or rap with a cracking emotional voice, he just paints the picture of a day in the life of an addict, simple as that.

The thing i love about both albums is that theyre basically complete opposites, especially in terms of content. So if im a dark, wanna sniff some oxys and get high type mood ill listen to Relapse but if im in an uplifting, wanna go to NA meetings mood ill listen to Recovery.

agreed, you cant compare recovery and relapse, theyre both great but in completely different ways, relapse doesnt appeal to the masses whereas recovery does, relapse will always be appreciated by hardcore hip hop/rap fans

I definitely agree with that, tho I haven't heard him say it I'm sure he did. Makes sense though, he was at a weird place in his life, but even still, I'm not sure how he thought that some of the content would be what fans wanted as a comeback.

Relapse was a great album. It's not really horrorcore but it does have a dark theme. Relapse has tons of songs you can bang to in your car though. That's why I like it. :8)
