I think it is supposed to be, Proof believed in me, without him I wouldn't be here with all these records sold, this good, etc. and it's him saying how because of Proof believing in him nobody can stop him. that's how I always took it.

How would saying anything along the lines of "I remember that time when we were younger---" be dwelling and mourning? He could've just recalled past situations and had a sort of nostaglic track instead of what he did do...
