Masta Ace Influenced By Eminem?

Postby MikeNUFC » Jul 15th, '10, 16:43

I was listening through Ace's work and something just hit me. His rhyming from his comeback (2001 onwards) compared to his work previous to that is incredibly different. And I only just realized from Disposable Arts onwards his flows and use of multies sound a lot like Eminem.

Dont get me wrong, I'm a HUGE Ace fan but I've always read of people saying "Em bit Ace's flow" etc etc but I honestly think it was the other way round. Em took inspiration for some of Ace's storytelling skills in Ace's first 3 albums, but flow wise Ace was inspired by Em, I reckon.

Just listen to his first 3 albums and then his next 2. And you can tell Em's influence on him, especially in the way he does multies (not quite as good as Em, but similar style).

Thoughts?

I have recently downloaded some of masta aces stuff and his new stuff does sound more like Eminem than his old stuff. I was thinking the same exact thing. I guess since Eminem was influenced by Ace they just both have similar styles and when you put those styles with a modern sound as opposed to old school hip hop, then I guess they sound more similar.

I think about 2% of the people in the Eminem section listen to Masta Ace so I don't know how much feed you're going to get on this.

Mike to me it's like SSlP Eminem sounded like Masta Ace. Now Masta Ace sounds like MMLP and TES Em. I think since Masta Ace knew Eminem was influenced by him so he thought he could swagger jack Em and everyone would just assume it's the other way around lol

I wouldnt say Em sounded like him but you can tell he was an influence, just like Slick Rick and Big L.

Yeah seems to be a misconception that it was Em who was influenced by Ace. Yahoo answers and YouTube users are adament that Em is a biter. Internet, eh?

I maybe think it was less an eminem thing, more of a trend if you know what i mean. I mean the biggest rappers, bits from their game become 'cool' at their peak. Eminem made multies cool again, when for a while it was all about flow.. It'd been a while since the Big l's etc.. Similar to when Wayne hit his top, suddenly everyone was attempting mad multies.. But i know what you're saying, and i can hear it.
My Top 5 (in no order)-

Eminem
Big l
Biggie Smalls
Royce Da 5'9"
Jigga

Years ago, Eminem once told Masta Ace that his 1993 Slaughtahouse album was a staple for the Detroit emcee in the uncertain years of his career portrayed in 8 Mile. In a strange turn of events, Eminem, now an Oscar-nominated, Grammy Award-winning producer, was able to remix the title track from Masta Ace Incorporated's aforementioned album.

Released on June 3, Delicious Vinyl Records' RMXXOLOGY features classics from the Los Angeles-based Hip Hop independent label remixed by stars from an array of genres. Original tracks from Tone Loc, Young MC and Fatlip are remixed by Peaches, Aaron Lacrate and Debonair Samir and Hot Chip. However, many are drawn in by the Eminemre-working.

"It's an incredible honor that somebody so talented and accomplished in the game would wanna do a remix of my song," Masta Ace told HipHopDX Wednesday morning, reacting to the work. The two, along with J. Black, appeared together on the rare track "Hellbound," made early in Eminem's career.

Wednesday, 17 September 2008
Eminem made a rare public appearance by doing a joint interview with Masta Ace on Shade 45 radio station . Em and Masta Ace were celebrating the 20th anniversary of Delicious Vinyl, the independent record label. Slim Shady discussed everything from his recent remix to Masta Ace's "Slaughterhouse" to how much of an influence Masta Ace was on him. "When I heard Masta Ace, like every time I would listen to him he would make me wanna rap,” Eminem said.

I was also thinking that when I was listening to Disposible Arts during my mock-exam.
Now I've forgot which song, he says something like: "I don't do black music, I don't do white music, I make rap (or was it hip-hop) music." ...
