As for all those no. 1 hits, I don't think you should read too much into it. If look at what young people are listening to nowadays you have not necessarily made something great just because you're number one somewhere. To be fair Eminem has made some crap songs that somehow managed to top the charts.

A LOT of foreigners only listen to the voice and beat anyway.
