No singing
Not having one of the worsst Just Blaze beats ever
Same sword they knight you they gon' good night you with
Sh.., Thats' only half if they like you
That ain't even the half what they might do
Don't believe me, ask Michael
See Martin, see Malcolm
You see Biggie, see Pac, see success and its outcome
See Jesus, see Judas; see Caesar, see Brutus
See success is like suicide
Suicide, it's a suicide
If you succeed, prepare to be crucified

Alaine wrote:he could of easy get someone else to do the hook, but that would ruin the "personal" quality of the song, he wants to do it all by himself. So yes the hook would be better with someone else on it but it wouldn't be as special. And I'm really not THAT bothered by the hook, it's ok.

I think the beat fits the "celebrate your life"-theme perfectly. The singing is my only problem with the song.

Maybe he sounds a little childish in the beginning of the first verse "If Proof could see me now I know that he would be proud" or something.

I think only Proof would be able to answer that since only he knew what is the best for him.

I honestly think people should be happy he publicly released this song. They had been moaning about the tribute since Proof's death so I think he decided to give them one. I know people can criticize the song but nobody in this world can better express Marshall's Mathers feelings towards Proof as Marshall Mathers alone. Nothing what people suggest can improve the tribute since it wouldn't be Eminem expressing his feelings anymore. There's a reason why the hook or the beat sound the way they do. Don't think he wouldn't have been able to modify the vocals if he had wanted. He already hinted his reason in one of his interviews.

Maybe he should just leave all his tributes to himself and only play them to his close friends and family although I hope he won't have a reason to write one in the first place.

Too much bitching goes on over this song. He wrote it for Proof, not you or anyone else. If you don't like the damn hook don't listen to it.

Beat & hook. but it's a good song the way it is though :y:
They claim that I'm violent, just cause I refuse to be silent
These hypocrites are havin fits, cause I'm not buyin it
Defyin it, envious because I will rebel against
any oppressor, and this is known as self defense
I show no mercy, they claim that I'm the lunatic
But when the shit gets thick, I'm the one you go and get
Don't look confused, the truth is so plain to see
Cause I'm the nigga that you sell-outs are ashamed to be

Have the Proof tribute feature D12. Change the beat to something more darker, like a Mr. Porter beat. And drop the singing in the hook. Em shoulda had 2 verses while each D12 member had 1

It's a good song, just not for me. I skip it almost everytime. The beat is tolerable, but the singing on the hook...I can't put up with it. The verses are good though, I listen to the song for the verses. I think he should have sang like he did on Seduction throughout the album, kinda low and smooth. Even his singing on Not Afraid is better than this. He was a good singer in Hailie's Song though, if he ever sings again he needs to sing like that

If he didn't wanna change the whole song pretty much though, then he shoulda be Liz on the hook or just someone else, doesn't matter who. But then, it wouldn't mean so much to Em if he didn't sing it himself

Came back to annihilate, the game's in dire straights, as I await
Word on Satan, as I drop, fall to my knees before this Quija board and I pray
Now I lay me down to sleep
I do this shit in my sleep, I’m sleepin' now, imagine if I awake

I think it's fine the way it is.

In fact, I got chocked up the first time I listened to it. Sooooo... it served it's purpose.
