Cannibal Ox

I don't know if you can really call these guys underground, and they're pretty old (2001) but this hip-hop duo is definitely underrated and their first and only album never got much mainstream success. However, it got very positive reviews from critics. Anybody ever hear of the Hip-Hop duo "Cannibal Ox"? They're on the Definitive Jux label which usually is home to many underground and alternative hip-hop artists (Like "Mr. Lif", "Del the Funkee Homosapien" and "El-P")

Their lyricism is simply amazing. It's clever, extremely complex, full of so much emotion, and it gives you chills every time you replay that song and hear it again. The songs are very dark in content to the point where they're pessimistic. The production is ill. Definitely an underrated hip-hop producer (El-P) or rather, one that just chooses to do little production work. Overall, definitely an album I think every hip-hop fan should listen to and I want to get the word out.

They are not underrated. Alot of people think Cold Vein is a classic and the best album Def Jux put out. Anyone who's been following hip hop in the last 10 years knows what the deal is. If they don't then they don't :coffee: .

How did I never see this thread before?!?

Cannibal Ox are one of the best duos ever based off one album, thats how good The Cold Vein is

Ive listened to that album full through at least 15-20 times and each song individually at least the same amount of times and I still catch new lines every time, and EL'P's production is still ahead of its time today

To me, The Cold Vein was the best hip hop record of the last decade
Same sword they knight you they gon' good night you with
Sh.., Thats' only half if they like you
That ain't even the half what they might do
Don't believe me, ask Michael
See Martin, see Malcolm
You see Biggie, see Pac, see success and its outcome
See Jesus, see Judas; see Caesar, see Brutus
See success is like suicide
Suicide, it's a suicide
If you succeed, prepare to be crucified

Cassettes Won't Listen posted a remix of Cold Vein on the Definitive Jux website. One of remixes is better than the original. Too bad Vast fell off and who knows what Vordul is doing. Vast carried that album with the lyrics and of course El P's beats were on par. Vordul's flow is alright but none of it was memorable. Vast on the other hand with Raspberry Fields was just on another level.
