Both count digital and physical.

Basically what Hits does is call the various retailers and get estimates of how much the cd has sold at that retailer.

Billboard uses Soundscan. So just different. I still think Billboard/Soundscan is more reliable.

I'd bet Soundscan isn't extremely accurate (more accurate than HIts I'm sure). They are probably missing many indie stores, smaller chains, supermarkets, bookstores, etc. So I'm guessing they extrapolate from the data they do collect, kind of like how Nielson tracks only a small number of homes for TV ratings then just multiplies that number.

I'd love to be wrong though, since otherwise we might be following bullshit.

Then the LTWLY video may help push it next week, but sales are counted from Monday-Sunday, so when the video drops on Thursday it only has 3 days

He should have no problem being #1 this week even w/o the video.

Then, with the video, the weeks leading up to Katy Perry (or whatever big release comes first) are locks, too.

Next week isnt as much of a lock as i previously thought. It could still end up being #1 next week. But i think it's going to be another close race with Arcade Fire. It's previous albums sold 91K opening week. It might exceed expectations like AS has done. Just like it's a close race this week with AS.
