Because it's vulgar, controversial, and has high energy. It's his best lyrical album and really defined who he is/was. :8)

I think Recovery is his best album so far.
I love MMLP as much as the next Stan though, but I feel like Recovery is more musically perfected.
Everything is just top notch.

But MMLP got classics on it, no doubt.
The Way I Am
Marshall Mathers
Stan
I'm Back

Yeah, dope album, but not my favorite. :b:

It ain't the best.

The Eminem Show is the best musically and lyrically. The Marshall Mathers LP is just more entertaining, more important, more vital and more artistic.

But in terms of just... As a crafted album, The Eminem Show is way ahead.

Good post :y:

I agree, they are without doubt his two best albums (for different reasons) and which you place on top as your fav is more of a matter of taste.

Is it bad that I think Recovery is his best work thus far?

I mean, don't get me wrong -- MMLP/TES are incredible. Untouchable, in fact. But Recovery is so deep lyrically, Em has progressed lightyears with his flow and delivery since then.

Just my opinion. ;)

Lightyears with his flow? What? He has this stop and start flow on Recovery and cus he doesnt write lineary (cept On Fire and LTWYL) it creates a choppy as hell flow - unnatural. His flow on his first 3 albums was so smooth and natural. Take his flow on Criminal, then his flow on 25 To Life - it's lightyears behind, not ahead.

And his delivery on Recovery is just forced shouting. First 3 CD's (and Relapse) had wayyy more variety.

Em's flow on Recovery is more versatile
Until TES came out, he used the same "talking" flow on most his songs...i like the different flows he's been using lately more...then again one of my favorite rappers is Tech N9ne so i'm probably biased in that i'd rather hear the faster flows from Em
