I think the video fails on the level of visually communicating to an audience, the power that the single had on it’s own when it was just a song. The video does glorify domestic violence by dressing it up in sex and pretty images. The images don’t have quite the same resonance that the song itself has. It doesn’t show the real damage that domestic abuse causes. It doesn’t even work on the artistic level of giving either Rihanna or Eminem a means of catharsis for their own pasts. It’s a terrible video and what’s more awful about it is that it comes at the expense of what is probably one of the most powerful singles I have ever heard on the radio in my entire life. For the video to flub that, or even the artists to flub that with the chance they were given, I think speaks volumes about their commitment to artistic integrity.

LOL i literally just read that. And although I'm not a huge fan of the video I dont really agree with what that dude is saying. He/she is kinda just tryin to sound smart. How can you question Eminem's artistic integrity?

I agreed that it's definitely one of the most powerful singles I have ever heard on the radio right now, and the video failed to translate the power of the song itself to the screen.

Good things:

-Good acting from Lost guy and Megan Fox
-Lost Guy smashes bottle on other guy's head
-Eminem turning into the human torch (and the others too)
-Rihanna is hot
-There's a good level of violence
-Shots are really well composed
-Em is a legend as always and looks badass

Things that could have been better:

-Video should have synced with the lyrics more, especially in "scratch claw bit em throw em down down pin em" part
-The "I laid hands on her part" should have shown her really hurt, bruised face or something...not making out a second later...that's the height of the violence in the song. Although the wall punch was really good.
-Should have shown her storming out the door, and her bags on the sidewalk.
-Video was really dark...it needed to be a bit brighter (faces were hard to make out sometimes)

Can't decide:

--Maybe Em should have replaced Lost Guy and fought with Megan
-I can't decide whether they should have shown Fox tied to the bed while the house burns.
-Maybe he should have been more violent toward her than she was towards him - would have paralleled the Chris Brown story better, and also follows the lyrics better "next time I'll show restraint"...but then again, it seems Kim was just as if not more violent towards Em than he was to her, so it depends on whose story it is telling.

Overall, a really, really powerful, complex video for such a short production schedule. It really should have come out two weeks ago though. I can't see why they didn't make a vid as soon as they saw it nearing the top of the chart.

Such a shame, since they rushed the video for the best song on the album and spent a shit-ton of time and money on one of the worst songs.

It was a missed opportunity for sure to not have had the video out at least two weeks ago. Did they seriously not officially decide that it would be the 2nd single? Did they really not see how much it was blowing up even over a month ago?

Maybe there's a reason, schedule-wise or something. Who knows?
