Young criminals named and shamed ?

Postby Hocky27 » Nov 17th, '05, 07:50

In my country ( Australia ) if you commit a crime before you are 18 it doesnt go down on your record. The theory behind this is that those people will grow out of it and that this way gives them a fair go at life. I think that even if they are under 18 that their crimes should still be recorded, they should have to live with the mistakes they made.

What do you guys think ?

Since you become adult AFTER your 18 (in most of the countries) you are not responsible for your teenage crimes, becuz the state itself dont recognise you as an adult person. Therefore your crimes shouldnt be recorded.

Well in some cases you should, like gang related. But that's still questionable. You can see 30 year old people who have change of heart, you cant expect a teenager to be 100% certain and responsible.

I really think it depends on the crime. Say it's like shoplifting at 15. There is a very high chance the kid is just too young to understand the consequences and will grow out of it.

Then look at, let's say murder at 17. That should be put on the record, because even though the person is below 18, they are still old enough to understand their actions and the crime is just to serious to be ignored.

it should definitely go on your record. if someone breaks the law he shouldn't have discretion just because he's young. especially if we are talking teenagers. i deal with kids on a regular basis and we were all teens (some still are), if you are bored and bust out someone car windows to pass the time, that's illegal and wrong. 13 or 33, you know it's not okay. if there's a kid in walmart stealing silver earrings, that kid is praying those alarms don't go off, she's aware that what she's doing is wrong. these teens know that they are breaking the law, and they know that if caught they'd be in serious trouble, so they should treated like any adult would.

now with kids under 11, that's a different story. the younger the child the least likely they are to understand the consequences of their actions.

here startin wen ur 12 u can get a criminal record or go 2 juvy......
in my opinion it depends of da crime u comited, if u steal candy or sumthin u should be forgiven cuz its sad 2 get caught and get a record 4 stealin candy. but murder (not 4 self defence) is a serious mater and no matter the age they should be punished.

in Italy you can go to juvanile hall, but most of the times the parents are judged guilty for you.I think that teenagers could go down to your record, but of course it depends on the crime. I think that it is important to punish crimes, but it's also important to make people understand their errors n help them comin out their troubles..I mean, give another chance(but just one other)..
