The United States had a conscription, or mandatory military service, also known as the Draft....it was used a while back in World War I and World War II and also in the Vietnam War...The United States discontinued the Draft in 1973...Now in the United States, we have the Selective Service System or the SSS...this law first established in 1917...says that all males, over the age of 18 and below the age of 26, are required by law to register with the system for the purpose being readily available for potential soldiers in the event of war...All males must register within 30 days after their 18th birthday...is it justified that women aren't required by law to do the same???...If a male doesn't register within the limited amount of time...he could face up to 5 years in jail...and a chance of a 250,000 dollar fine...however...in 1986..the legislature revised this method and created an alternate one...The alternative method of encouraging registration, federal legislators and most state legislators passed laws requiring that in order to receive financial aid, federal grants and loans, and certain government benefits, an individual had to be registered with selective service...however...upon registering in the SSS...an individual can not say that he is Conscientious objector..which means thatis an individual whose personal beliefs are incompatible with military service, perhaps with any role in the armed forces (in which case he is either pacifist or antimilitarist) or object to a particular war...however..if one is drafted...they are allowed to say that they are a Conscientious objector...however...it is not stated by law whether this will prohibit them from going to war...There is one downfall to the SSS..which falls under the Selective Service Act...the SSS violates the 13th Amendment of the United States Constitution...
13th Amendment: Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction...
Men, if a draft is needed, are placed in several categories...the first to go would be those of the Armed Forces...then the rest are examined and placed into 4 Main Classes with several sub-classes...The Director of the Selective Service System is William A. Chatfield, appointed in October 29th, 2004, by President George W. Bush...
Is it justified that an individual can be "volun-told" to serve for their country in a time of war???....What is your opinion on women not being required...rather..not allowed..to register with the Selective Service System???
