I think it was partly because he knew the verses he did on the Wake Up Show and in other interviews are what got him famous, so he didn't want to totally let the cat out of the bag that those "freestyles" were writtens. Also because he just had an endless amount of genius verses back then so he didn't think so much about putting the "best stuff" on the album. Obviously the end product turned out well anyway.

^ He pretty much hit the nail on the head but i'd also add that the idea of ripping off verses from your old underground songs for your major label debut probably seemed a bit gay to him, if he even thought of it. Imagine how stupid he might feel when people came out saying "hey you already did this verse", considering he had only just come out and wanted to succeed. Might not have wanted to do anything to harm his chances. Plus, i'm sure with everything that was going on he was writing constant shit and had gallons of inspiration and buzz.

Amadeo wrote:But to your point about it being lame to re-hash old verses, pretty much every song on the album except Role Model, Still Don't Give a Fuck, My Name Is and Guilty Conscience is an underground re-hash. I've heard him spit an "As The World Turns" verse on radio, pre-SSLP.

Really? That's interesting lol, i never knew that. Got any links?

This is probably the most interesting thread I've read on here. I never really knew much about the SSLP creation. I knew that some of it obviously came straight from the Slim Shady EP. I would love to read more about this time period. Keep it coming.

Well, apart from producing My Name Is, Role Model and Guilty Conscience (all great beats), he did a lot behind the scenes. He came up with the concept for Guilty Conscience and basically taught Eminem how to record in a big-budget studio (along with numerous studio tricks) and brought the best out of him for those three songs.

Dre also re-mixed some of the EP songs that were included on the album.

That's true. I just remember when Em first got big I thought it was all Dre. I didn't know anything about the ep or anything. And I guess that was the plan. Eminem gets more appeal with Dres name slapped on it.

Thanks for the info though man. You know your shady. :y:

I have the original versions of Bad Meets Evil, I'm Shady, Cum On Everybody (that has a different chorus too), Rock Bottom - I guess they're all from around 97.

I also have the originals to some of his collabs - The Last Hit, Rush Ya Clique and We Shine, although I have no clue as to what year they're from.
