Postby MikeNUFC » Aug 18th, '10, 16:59

Andre 3000 has a really good one but I can't find it. Something like "people think rap is crack women and hoes, but it's conscious yet all of that too", though I just botched that quote horribly lol.

I made her shit her draws
She said she tought Hip Hop was only guns and alcohol
I said "Oh hell naw!" but yet it's that too
You can't discrimahate because you done read a book or 2

If so, I've alread used it. But cheers anyhow. Love that verse.

Yes that's the one.

I'm sure Common, Mos Def, or Talib have some. I'll look them up and get back to you.

I remember you made a thread like this before, I can't remember fully, but did I link to O.C's "Times Up" song? If not, thats what you're looking for :y:

Edit: check Ace's verse on this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKyqFv34ikI (starts at around 40 seconds) actually the whole track could help you, minus that foreign dude!

Yeah ages ago. Still working on the piece. Pretty much done now. Just adding in a few quotes to finish off.

Yeah I used that somewhere in the essay I think. But I might add some quotes from it. Cheers.

The only problem with it is it criticises a lot of stereotypical hip hop. Quotes I'm looking for is more defending the genre as a whole from media perceptions.

No problem :y:
Oh ok, as ChinaShopTaurus said I'm certain the likes of Common and Mos Def have talked about stuff like this, my minds blank at the moment though

Goodluck with it anyway - if I think of more stuff in the next few minutes I'll throw it up

Edit: this is worth a listen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xz4eTUFDU3s

Common basically says music as a whole as declined since J Dilla died

I start thinking, how many souls hip-hop has affected
How many dead folks this art resurrected
How many nations this culture connected
Who am I to judge one's perspective?

All I could find on short notice. Which is pretty useless lol. I'll look for some Lupe also.

Here's one on violence being spawned everywhere and not just from rap music.

America loves Gottis, America loves bodies
Pacino countin’ C-Notes for shootin up club lobbies
While Eddie Nash controls bankrolls in Wonderland
Tony Soprano hits channels and holds down On-Demand
We wanna see it and some ****** gon’ wanna be it
Others are doing numbers that breed it, bleed it, can’t defeat it
Bush, the political gangster, man you gotta be high
Gave plenty of orders for slaughters ain’t swatted a fly
Modern day cowboys with shiny alloys for side arms
Hidin being bombs, advanced cowards
In Jesse James ways we handled the Towers
Guns blazin for freeze framing the King of New York

^ must listen!
Basically outlines the fact that the government or the media didn't give a fuck about black people before rap music came about - legenadry track, you've probably used Public Enemy quotes already though
I'm sure Paris has a lot of music defending hip hop from the media - I'll skim through some of his music now

Edit: Kurt Cobain of Nirvana once said that rap music was the most vital form of music since punk rock, I'd put that in there
