Well maybe he genuinely believes that, but it's a pretty lame reason for not experimenting. Boxing yourself in to such a degree you think you have to remain and live upto (or down) this pathetic little image you've crafted. As an artist that's just ridiculous.
All that should matter is your own self-satisfaction. Especially at this point when he has no reason to do it for money. No excuse for it, he's just a bad artist. Well, not even an artist. Just an ex drug-dealer with a record deal.

Well real rap to me is tight rhymes, tailored flows and creativity.
Now, GRODT barely had any of those things to me. I'm not saying it's not a classic album. But 50 has never been a great lyricist or great at riding a beat. He was however very good at creating melodic hooks. But it was largely Dre's production that made that album what it was.
So given what I look for, it's nowhere near as good as Relapse or Recovery. Em's rhyming is so amazing on Relapse it's absolutely... Well, actually any Eminem album even Encore has lyricism that's better than 50's best lyricism 10 times over. Obviously it ain't JUST about lyricism it's about execution and concepts too. But GRODT was hardly a creative album. He's been saying the same stuff since he came out, and to me that stuff gets redundant after a few tracks never mind five albums. It's basically "I'll pop a n1gaa for fucking with me" / "I gets mines when I'm stuntin" on fucking loop.
He isn't creative at all. What he brought to rap back then was a dark realism but his appeal relied heavily on his image, back-story and great production. Like I say, the less each has been involved, the worse his music has become. Every album aside from Encore shits on it.
PS. the fact that one of the worst lyricists (50) in the rap game is signed to the label of one of the best (Em) is a Bizarre paradox.
