I think Slim Shady LP is funniest by far. But yeah, Encore is so unfunny.

I think SSLP is funny any day. Because Em's good humour, which was worth something, always came from attitude. That's why so little of his stuff sounds dated. He may reference things coincident with the times but media / people focus on these pointlessly and obsessively like they're the most important thing to his relevance.

SSLP is still funny because of its mean-spiritedness, its abstract visuals etc. Human attitudes and styles of communication which bypass pop culture. In reality, he's never relied on name-dropping despite that being a perception. From an untrained eye it may look that way but anybody who's truly ever GOT his shit knows that has never mattered. So for that reaosn I think that album and MMLP still sound fresh, funny and innovative.

Yeah, although I think there's another thread for unintentionally funny lines in his songs, maybe for entire songs too. I agree about that one. Perhaps in this sense it's his most failed first single ever.

It's not his worst in absolute terms, but in terms of comparing to his real ambitions, yes.

"Just Lose It" wasn't meant to be some great inspirational anthem yadda yadda.. just to be silly. And it was. So if you just take it for it is, it's not the end of the world.

But listen to "Not Afraid" and consider that he actually thought it was a great, serious song and you go
