As for the actual point of the thread. Not sure there is a "best ever" or anything. Everyone has their thing they are particulary good at, and that's the beauty of it.

In my opinion it is not really a contest although that pretty much has been the "idea" of hip hop for generations now. I personally listen to a lot of different artists cus they all have something in their rapping that I find appealing. That goes for artists in every genre.

A lot of people prefer nice lyrics to complex rhyme schemes, other just wanna hear someone spit some nice punchlines. There's even people who judge artists by their voice.

Hip hop has been changing so much over the years, and there are so many rappers out there doing their thing that no one will continue to inspire tons of new artists.

Tomorrow there will probably be a new guy having his run.

Yeah Rolling Stone is known for their shit reviews.

They gave MMLP, TES, ENCORE, RELAPSE AND RECOVERY all 4/5. That's ridiculous. So they think all those albums are of the same quality. ENCORE as good as MMLP? Yes, how credible.

You can't cite RS to support your Wayne love. And given the fact they've given every fucking Em albums 4/5 would make it very easy for Em fans to quote them, but most don't as they're clearly incapable of making truly objective reviews.

I mean I'm pretty sure they gave Recovery a 3.5 when it first came out. Probably to avoid everybody's ridicule that they just keep giving Em's albums four blindly. Now it's back upto 4 when the album's huge.

Rolling stone gave Michael Jackson's Thriller 4/5. Normally I hate people bringing up numbers but this album has sold more than 100 million copies (!).

The album was one of the best selling albums of 2009. Yeah, he passed away but no one buys an album they don't like. 28 years and this still has better production than 99 % of what's on the radio these days.

This guy brings up a good point. LilWayne4Life, you never actually have stated why you think he is the best. All you really talk about is sales, but all sales aside, I'm interested to hear exactly why Wayne is GOAT in your eyes. I wanna hear this from a Wayne head, this'll be funny

There is a point within that however I feel it takes away from the bigger picture.

Reviews certainly mean more than nothing. They're the collective consciousness of the times. So whilst of course it's not right to just take one or a few people's opinion as fact on something, there are objective elements to art which are universal.

And a lot of people fall back on "oh it's just opinion" or "It IS subjective you know" but that's really failing to take into account the proper reasoning behind good analysis. For example, it's not a coincidence that the vast majority of film critics (and people) consider The Godfather a masterpiece.
