i agree with SSLP. It's my favorite of his albums but most people seem to put it as third or even fourth best sometimes. Crazy.

Word to Jaz.

Imma break it down for yall

SSLP-10/10
MMLP-9/10
TES-10/10
Encore-4/10
Relapse-5/10
Recovery-6/10

And that's the truth

Hell naw...you just cant put TES as perfect album, that album has its downs
And since we`re giving them grades here are main:
MMLP-10/10(there`s only one 10/10 album in my book and this is it,I just dont understand people who have like 20 10/10 albums  )
SSLP-9/10
Recovery-8.5/10
TES-8/10(maybe even 7.5 when I`m not in a mood)
Infinite-5/10(only because main has shitty quality)
Relapse-4/10
Encore-3/10

I forgot about Infinite, I'll give that an 8/10, that album's my shit. Any anyway, TES was probably an 8/10 for me untill I listened to it the other day as I described in my and Solace's thread. Everysong was amazing. Outside of Obie's verse on Drips this album was basically perfect so I won't subtract it for that. Anyway yeah, I have like 6 10/10 albums lol.

Relapse definitely. People were just expecting another Eminem Show, but when they heard a whole new concept with some different accents (admittedly overkill on some tracks) they chose to hate it instantly rather than judge it's lyrical prowess and great flows.

Totally agree
I wanted an album so rugged nobody could touch it
Spend a million a track and went over my budget

Well, I'm pleasantly surprised that so many mention Relapse. Perhaps it isn't that underrated after all :)

i think most em fans liked relapse after they got used to it,,, but its definitly an album that the general public wud not like.... i sorta like that,,, i like recovery more but its got WAY to much of a mainstream feel to it,,, the eminem show was the perfect balance..... and i do think sslp is way under rated,,, to me thats a fuckin classic

eminem show>sslp>mmlp>recovery>encore>relapse
i like relapse ALOT... but i do think its his worst album
the eminem show just seems like the perfect album,, its ridiculous

edit:i listen to recovery the most now adays probs just because its newer but yeah

I think it's the other way around. At least on this forum, it was very very well received when it came. Somehow it became fashionable to hate on it at some point, not exactly sure how and why it happened. And of course now when Em himself dissed it it's kind of being taken as proof that it really was "ehh" which is quite illogical.

The SSLP because to me it's on equal ground with TES and The MMLP.

People liked it when it first came out because it was new Em and it wasn't total garbage like the stuff he had put out in the previous years. The hype started to die down when people realized that the accent was annoying, and that he could do much better.

Encore was horrible, if anything, people don't hate enough on it IMO. I'd say both MMLP and TES are getting their due, they're brilliant albums and mostly perceived that way.

SSLP is a classic as well but there's sometimes an underappreciation for the depth of it, I think. Rock Bottom, If I Had and Brain Damage are on that album, but the focus is on the comedy, gore, voice etc. It's hilarious stuff, don't get me wrong, the comedy is just so well done that it tends to draw attention away from the rest for some, which is a pity.

Relapse has good songs that were IMO overshadowed by the poor single choices. Recovery is strange in that sense because you could argue that it's both overrated and underrated. OTOH it's not on the same level as his first three OTOH some of the critical responses have been totally ridiculous. This is a fantastic album and better than most of the stuff put out in the last few years yet the praise is grudging while joke acts like Lady Gaga get showered with accolades. :facepalm

We were talking about "underrated" as in general public right? if so how can Encore be underrated while it sold shitload? even more than SSLP?

Yeah but number of sales doesn't necessarily mean that people love it now. I'm sure most people bought the album to support Em, or even liked it at first due to initial hype with everything - as in when you hear something for the first time, it'll always sound better than you'd think and it would have some replay value, and when the initial hype dies down then you realise it's not as great as you thought. And SSLP was his major debut album anyway you can't expect a "new" Eminem to compete with an "established" Eminem in terms of sales no matter what the difference is between the albums.

Still don't understand all the Hype recovery receives. Glad it is dominating the charts worldwide similar to the early 00's but for me it has 3 or 4 songs i really like(GTC,Almost Famous,Untitled,Seduction,so bad is cool to haha) and then a bunch of songs that i can listen to but i don't get excited over.

I believe Relapse is very underrated, 2 tracks from Relapse make my top 3 since his comeback (SWA,My Darling). Having said that i still believe Recovery to be the better album on an overall scale. Encore had some good tracks too but there were to many very poor tracks which is why i don't believe it to be underrated. SSLP is dope.

Recovery=Overrated but better than Relapse=Underrated

Not everyone would agree with this, so no, that's not the truth

Relapse is a very underrated album (on topic)

Well MMLP and Eminem Show are hailed classics by most rap fans and SSLP is just outside of being a classic (the production holds it back for me) so that only leave Encore, Relapse, and Recovery. Recovery I'm almost sure that it will be hailed a classic in time. Now encore is still, and will always be garbage. So that leaves Relapse. Now most people seemingly are deterred by the accent, the rhyming scheme and flow are incredible and ahead of its time. I do think Relapse is underrated but not a classic
