Is Recovery a true comeback album?

Postby xxTrigger1989xx » Aug 25th, '10, 23:37

I think yes. Like it or not, Recovery has been extremely successful. He's selling over 100K each week, NO artists these days have sold like this. This is definitely Em's year and his true comeback into the rap game. Relapse was a decent comeback, passable, but Relapse doesn't have shit on Recovery, besides better multis, but hey, I'd rather have great songs as a whole instead of just great lyrics. Don't get me wrong, I pay attention to lyrics ALOT, if it has shitty lyrics, I will not listen to it. But the subject matter and delivery (accent, not flows, his flows were incredible) held Relapse down a lot

I like this new Em, but for his next album he needs to come up with something amazing. He needs to produce most of it like he did The Eminem Show. He's always great on his tracks, because he produced them himself with a concept in mind for the song, instead of having to write lyrics around someone else's beat

So, who thinks Recovery is his real comeback album? Or, do you think Relapse was his real comeback?

In my opinion :

Relapse was a good album

But.

Recovery was a better album

So, therefore Recovery was his comeback album, not Relapse.

Relapse was his real comeback unless it sucked, which it didn't.

Relapse was his comeback album cus it was the one he released first. Like it or not, all his albums are a reflection of him as an artist cus they are all made by him. I'm not buying all this "the last two didn't count" stuff.

It's as simple as that.

Relapse was his comeback (I know you recognized that) but still, people tryna ignore it are shitting on a very decent album. Many just because Em himself denounced it.

Regardless of what he thinks about it, it was so fucking dumb to denounce it on Recovery like that. As he can never retract that, that's on record forever. And if his opinion on that material can change so strongly in less than a year, it's hardly wise to think that opinion will be unquestionable forever too.

Even though I don't believe he hates it at all and is simply adhering to / trying to suck upto people he may of turned off. He basically bitched out the moment people complained. Not that I care as Recovery is awesome. But, Relapse was a brave comeback and the possible start back up the lader of true artistic freedom, he's taken a little stumble back now. Irrespective of how technically great Recovery is.

However, I feel had he released R1 + R2 as a double-album and made a slew of highly visual, intense videos it could of been a masterpiece. For me, he basically fucked up the entire album with the inclusion of "Crack a Bottle" and "Beautiful". So irritating. And then he picks the worst songs (aside from "3am") to do videos for.

Imagine if he had done a video for "Medicine Ball", he could of had a whole new look. Took this "mr. antagonist" vibe to a whole new level. Picture an extremely tight, visual video of him with the world in his palm fucking with people like an evil dictator. Relapse could of been groundbreaking, such a wasted opportunity.

YES! Props. A lot of artists don't just let it flow - Em does. His albums are ALWAYS a reflection of himself at that moment in time, one of the reasons I love it all so much.

Except Encore. That didn't count

I wonder who told Em that lots of people didn't like the accents?

I think he does go online and read stuff but just doesn't want to admit it.
