I think you mean "producer." He's an awful lyricist and his artistic concepts aren't impressive.

Making an album full of Auto-Tuned garbage and emo singing certainly isn't an "artistic" move. It's doing what pretty much most R&B artists were doing at the time.

Actually that sentence was a mistake. I meant to put Kanye is a better artist than Jay.

I don't consider him a better a artist than Eminem. Meant to say Jay but since I was talking about all three of them must of mistyped.

As for the 808s comment, can't be fucked to debate that atm, think what you want about it. I can defend why it certainly is and there's no need to put artistic in quote marks to imply sarcasm, It's obvious you're denouncing it. But it's art all the same, whether you like it or not.

Anyway, I ain't responding back to debate that shit. Just saying, I meant Jay.

He should be higher than Jay-Z, that's for sure. Em always gets ripped off. Who would've thought the vulgar boy from Detroit would make the top 100 list. :flutter:

SMH @ ranking Jay higher than Em. That list makes me sick. Jay has had only 1 classic album, Em has atleast 3. Bullshit list.

Yo y all the hate on Jay? He lasted the test of time. Category for a classic. Listen to reasonable doubt that was indie no one wanted him then hiss buzz blew up. Him responding to 50 diss helped him blow up n he still making classics. He deserves to be ranked high

Standing the test of time doesn't just automatically make you brilliant. People always bring this but to be honest, once you get to a certain level - As long as you keep putting out records, which aren't literally the worst records ever made in human history... You'll keep selling. It's like people talk about Elton John being around for like 40 years, it's like yeah he's "been around" for 40 years but he hasn't been making ground-breaking material for 40 years. It's inconsistent flashes and most of the time these people are barely mentioned.

Where as whenever Em feels like playing ball he's the most relevant man in music, 24/7.

Jay has had, I mean I'll even give him 2/3, whatever - Lets even say 3 classics. I don't think he has had 3 but giving him the 'max' perception of classics he's put out, how many actual albums has he put out? = ELEVEN. So 3/11, hardly mind-boggling consistency isit. Not that I'm saying it's easy to make a classic but most the time, he's not that great. He's just going through the motions.

Where as Em put out three classics in a fucking row. I mean Jay put out a classic for a debut then it took him... 5 years to put out his next widely accepted classic. Five fucking years. Would everybody be saying Em is so great if he put out SSLP then had four years of good / okay albums then another classic in 2004? - He has to do so much more to get acclaim. And fuck what anyone says, part of it is because he's white. He has to be 10 times as good to even get a mention it's scandalous.

Also 'classic totting-up' aside, this list about the greatest ARTIST. Not the biggest seller, person with the longest career or best dress sense. I mean if you wanna tot up stats, Em's the biggest selling rapper of all time. But that's bullshit and isn't relevant to how great an artist they are directly, only how popular they are. So lets talk art since we're talking about greatest artist. What art has Jay-Z done that trumps the best songs of Em's first three? Where's his groundbreaking creativity. Has he ever took himself to the heights of "Kim". Has he made an album which pushed the limits of freedom of speech to the outer-limits and had everyone from the rap community to the highest of public poets and writers buzzing wild, fuck no. He's not even close to as effective or important.

Jay-Z is nowhere near the artist Eminem is.

As far as hip-hop goes Rakim or Nas should have made it. No way in hell is Jay-Z 30 spots ahead of Em, no way B.I.G. is even ahead of Em. To me Jay is barely a top 10 rapper, it's his longevity that puts him up there, people like to talk about Em falling off but Jay was never even close to Em lyrically to begin with. Jay has been garbage since the Black Album, other than a few songs on AG. Plus we're talking about artists so how the fuck is Jay-Z at like 40 yet Kanye doesn't crack the top 100? I don't think it's a horrible list overall though I think Dylan should be number one, and Madonna is in no way shape or form better than Pink Floyd. Other than that I guess its ok.

This, definitely. I agree about the white comment too. It seems like he has to keep proving himself twice as hard as anyone else to get credibility because of his skin color. But, this is good inspiration to keep improving

He's got a point, Hip Hop artists won't get enough recognition.

let's be serious- singing, and playing instruments is alot harder than rapping

How is singing hard either you have a good voice or you dont? And it would depend on what level of rapping you are on to compare it to an instrument.. theres about a million more dope guitar players then dope rappers

No where in the first post does it mention the editors religious beliefs and if you never heard of The Beatles, or Bob Dylan, or Led Zeppelin, or Michael Jackson that's pretty sad unless your from like some third-world country which you probably wouldn't even have a computer so I doubt that. Everyone knows the top 5 or at least knows of them.
