Em actually helped Rihanna, she doesn't even have to do anything besides singing 4 lines (which she didn't write) and still have #1 hit after the last flopped single & flopped album. Her label knows this too, that's why they're pushing out her new single next week (when her last album was just like 9 months old lol) to ride with LTWYL's hype

Of course Rihanna's hook has something to do with the success. The average radio listener only listen to the music and the hook. Rihanna's chorus has also helped the track appeal to female listeners.

It's not really important anyway since it's a quite good track. The debate had relevance if they song sucked but still managed to do well.

it's a flop, ask her FANS and they will probably admit it. Kesha is a new artist and she did rated r's number with her album.

It just didn't do as well as that "Umbrella, ella, ella" thing. Not as poppy. And she's a singles artist, dependent on constant hits to get decent album sales. The album was just darker, not as radio-friendly, several songs dealing with the Chris Brown situation. I listened to it after LTWYL came out, but even before that I noticed Russian Roulette on TV here, "just pull the trigger" etc. Thought it was pretty risky to put something like that out as single, and was amazed that her label let her do that. She isn't exactly known as the major creative force behind her output...

I would't call it a "flop" either, but it obviously disappointed her label's expectations. Otherwise I can't explain why they are rushing out another single and album so soon.
