I completely agree, the punchlines are Recovery were embarrassing.

And actually a punchline is anything that makes you look better or your opponent (most of the time an imaginary rapper) look worse. So most of Eminem's old punchlines were just about how crazy he was but at least they were creative. His punches now are horrible.

This is the thing that dragged the album down most. It would be SOOO much better if he hadn't put these awful puns in.

I was thinking about people saying stuff like "Eminem has got his punchline game back" and you're right, he never had one, really. That's not something he's ever delved into (thankfully - I find most punchlines boring or cheesy).

I used to think punchlines were like a witty or funny quotables that finished a bar but they seem to be puns/similies/metaphors

Em was never really a punchline rapper and most of Recovery's ones were basic to say the least. His style is more a crazy-passionate-multi- verse filled style.

It seems the age of the punchline rapper has dawned where tracks have no meaning and are one big boast. Unless you think of some dope punches, it gets boring after 2-3 tracks

I agree,though. He sounds like an amateur with these shitty ass punchlines he has on Recovery. They're so corny, I cringe at some lines in Recovery (Not Afraid mostly)...

I mean, it's like half of the line is just there to set up the other half, they don't connect.

Yep, the punch lines were the worst part about Recovery. Hope he cuts it out on the next album (if he makes another album, that is... )

But...he always gave a fuck. That hasn't changed IMO.

Eminem's been really good these last two albums but he's also had flaws that people can't ignore: the silly accent and lack of content on Relapse and the punchlines/mediocre beats on Recovery.

I guess it doesn't bother as much as some. I listen to quite a decent amount of hip/hop & I hear many similar weak lines.

J. Coles line isn't even that great, it's an EXAMPLE. The line makes sense, he doesn't have to say "in other words" or come up with a stupid line to come before the punch like Eminem's lines on Recovery
