I have to admit, it wasn't nearly as iconic as his previous VMA perfromances, namely TRSS/WIA performance in 2000 and his White America and COMC performance in 2002. But still, it was far from garbage. It was the best performance of the night thus far, though that really isn't saying much.

Yeah it's because he isn't creating as visual concepts now.

I mean with "The Real Slim Shady", I mean... Immediately having 1,000's of lookalikes like that is gonna appear iconic so it's just gonna work. Then with "White America" you got the whole politcal route to go. He really seemed to put effort in like Kanye then to creating an entire experience.

But with "Not Afraid"... I mean aside from, well yeah... Just looking more intimately into the camera or shouting louder what can he do lol. I'm not criticzing your post by the way, just pondering out loud and somewhat disappointed in his content now. I mean realistically he could of thought of a visual concept if he put his mind to it, any metaphor taken to the extreme.

I don't know how he thinks rapping with his hood up will be memorable in history.

dunno what you guys were expecting, I don't think he tried to make it "iconic" or "historic" or something, I mean he didn't even care enough to stay for some more time to receive the awards. MTV probably begged him to open so they can hype it up (and make ppl though this gonna be some historic shit, which judging by the expectations here, it worked)

I understand and I agree with you, but from what he's said in interviews about relearning how to rap and his nervousness about getting back on stage, I see his performances since his return as baby steps. Though he still moves around rather awkwardly on stage, it's a huge improvement from the jerky movements he did last year. He's feeling the music and is slowly starting to regain his natural rhythm. He's not quite as self-conscious. Improving himself vocally and making sure he's on point rap-wise is probably a higher priority than the creative art of the actual performance. Hopefully, once he feels like he has that under control, he can refocus his mind the other aspects of performing.

I can't watch the vid. I have a hard time watching artist perform songs that I find corny. NA got corny after a while. I was hoping he'd perform something new that he hasn't performed and then just did LTWYL since it's a hit.

Did he accept any awards or did he bounce?

why the hoody? Looks odd. Did Rhianna close the show liked they claimed she would do or did she fly in just for this? I thought she was doing something else to prevent her from going.

I wish Em did Cinderella Man. That would have had people hyped.
