Next week’s chart will feature a two-horse race with Warner Bros. rap-rock Linkin Park’s much-praised, Rick Rubin-produced A Thousand Suns, in the early lead, sporting a projected total of 250-260k. That is none too shabby, though it’s sobering to realize that just three short years ago, Minutes to Midnight moved a total of 623k its first week of release in May ’07.

That’s thanks to one-day sales reports from those retailers wearing their Gaga-approved meat suits in the middle of September.

Right behind the Linkin Park guys is Atlantic R&B tout Trey Songz with Passion, Pain and Pleasure, his fourth album, on target for 220-230k, a substantial increase over his 2009 release, Ready, which moved 131k on its way to a total of 785k.

Does anyone know the tv ratings for the VMAs and Entourage? Coz that could be a wildcard, obviously millions of people would've watched both so its gonna be interesting to see the sales for this week...

Billboard 200:

#2 Recovery - 12 weeks on chart - up 1 place
#87 Relapse - 69 weeks on chart - same position
#119 Curtain Call - 85 weeks on chart - up 18 places

BILLBOARD

- Eminem's Recovery climbs from #3 to #2. It's the first album to spend its first 12 weeks in the top three on The Billboard 200 since Alicia Keys' As I Am, which spent its first 15 weeks in the top three in 2007-2008.

- Recovery this week becomes the second album of 2010 to top the 2.5 million mark in sales. It follows Lady Antebellum's Need You Now. Recovery reached the 2.5 million sales mark in just 12 weeks. Lady A's album took 29 weeks to reach that threshold.

- Eminem featuring Rihanna's "Love The Way You Lie" dips from #4 to #5 (147K) on Hot Digital Songs.

- Recovery is just 110,000 copies behind Need You Now as the best-selling album so far in 2010.

- Recovery has been a big digital hit. The album has sold 649,000 digital copies (26% of its total). It's #4 on Nielsen/SoundScan's list of the best-selling digital albums in history.

- Recovery is the top-selling digital album by a male artist (beating John Mayer's Continuum) and the top-seller by a hip-hop artist (topping Jay-Z's The Blueprint 3).

- 5 songs from Recovery are listed on Hot Digital Songs

Recovery will overtake LA's album in 2 weeks, and will sell about 3.1 million by the end of the year!...its most likely gonna be the best selling album of the year, but watch out, dont forget Taylor Swift's album thats comming out in late october "Speak Now",it will only have 9 weeks to top Recovery's 3 million but it will still be a fresh album in the xmas time :o ,its possible,if you think about it Taylor Swifts last 2 albums were very successful, her last album has been certified 6x platinum,so dont get to exited about Recovery being the best selling album of the year yet....im givin Recovery a 75% chance

Taylor's sale will be alright, I used to think she could do 1 million first week but now I don't. Her first single this time clearly not as big as Love Story from Fearless, and lots of ppl have started to realize that all her songs sound the same :coffee: But she will release in 4th quarter so her sale will still be big, just not record-breaking like most ppl are expecting.
