Em's Enunciation?

Postby SoldierShady » Sep 18th, '10, 09:08

I listened to Kill You and noticed that Em's enunciation was incredibly sharp but has deteriorated through the years....On SSLP, MMLP and TES...yeah, it was still good.
Now (while the songs are still hot) on Recovery you can almost immediately pick up that he's slurring a bit. And that strained, shouty-type delivery....ugh. Maybe it's age catching up, I don't know.

He's just not as sharp as he used to be.
"So one last time, I'm back, 'fore it fades into black and it's all over, behold the final chapter in the saga, trying to recapture that lightning trapped in a bottle twice, the magic that started it all...tragic portrait of an artist tortured....trapped in his own drawings..." - Bruce.

Disagree. I think if anything, he over-enunciates these days. I get this image of him breaking pop filters when listening to his newer shit.

I disagree here b/c I find his enunciation incredibly sharp on Recovery, better than on the earlier CD's actually.

I agree to some extent.
Back in the days his enunciation was flawless, so sharp like it could slice through stone.

He is still sharp today, but it doesn't feel so real. It feels kinda forced, like he's trying to be like he was but it's impossible cause those pill do something to your voice over time. Like the OP said, it sounds a little bit slury.

But it's still good, even though i hope he'll tone down the angry voice on the next album.

Well, I don't care really what you're like on the inside and I just really want you to come to bed with me. Would you do that if you could? Even if you were just average on the outside (but not fat) I could like you if you sounded smart.

Yeah, that shouty screamy voice flow is wack. I can't understand a word he sayin'.

He should go back to the TES style. Yeah, Eminem show Em is the best ever.

Absolutely flawless in every way. :flutter:

I disagree and think the opposite is true.

His voice was almost more raw back then because the songs were less polished. He was still understanding who he was as an artist and moulding songs.

Where as now, if you listen to like "Untitled" or "You're Never Over", he's incredibly sharp. Every single syllable is emphasized and clear as day.

Like it's almost too sharp, too perfected?

Um, well not for me. I'm an obsessive perfectionist too.

Like for example, I would re-record a single move in a card routine (card magic) for like 5 hours straight just because one of my fingers didn't flair properly or something like that. Can't help it. That's why it's funny when some people on here think I'm being pretentious or trying to sound smarter with the way I write too. It's nothing to do with that, it's purely because I'm a perfectionist with every form of presentation in that respect. Like, not in my life, I'm depressive and lazy lmao. But like, once I started focusing on grammar, I just cannot stand to see myself phrase something incorrectly etc.

So it all depends what perspective you come from. I'm like he is with details as well so for me, I prefer that. And when he does slur or not properly emphasize every word it annoys me. It's part of what makes Eminem who he is to me.

Like I've never heard another rapper with such strong flows, natural delivery and yet incredibly tailored, finite pronunciation. I mean he hits 99% of everything spot-on. Which is why I find it hard to appreciate other rappers as much as him probably.

Because most other rappers just sound very lazy in their delivery in comparison then.

But I know what you mean like the rawness of say MMLP. But, I think more than anything it's the content. I think if he had that content with this level of flow perfection, it would be better. It's just easy to see how... One could find his obsession with flows over content annoying lately. Which I do myself. I love it but I also wish he would focus more on actual ideas too.

It isn't the way he's pronouncing the syllables, it's his tone.

A lot of his recent work is just shouting, I just read in a interview that he had to "reteach" himself how to sound on the mic, how to deliver the words, etc.

It's like he's trying to sound angry by shouting, like he's using a fast-flow to be flashy..
The "anger" on Recovery is sounds fabricated, imo. The anger on songs like The Way I Am is real.
The way he expresses himself doesn't fit the context, sometimes..

Anyway it doesn't bother me much, he's still dope, but it's just an observation.
