The only reason Illuminati is mentioned in correlation with Freemasonry was due to Adam Weishaupt, the creator of the Illuminati, 1776, in Bavaria. The Illuminati were recruited from Bavarian Freemasons in a plot to subvert the French Government as he believed in a government with no Monarchs and the such.

Those who left for the Illuminati were disfranchised. Shortly afterward Weishaupt's attempts failed and he went into exile.
