Yes, because that's what Jay-Z does. He raps 8-bar verses on immensely popular songs so he can get the royalties and make hits, that's what we expect of him that's what he has always done. Whereas Eminem used to be someone who could actually go AGAINST the bullshit pop music that was out at the time and still sell his music, but now apparently not so.

Also, i couldn't give a shit if he "sold out" or not, he obviously didn't cause he's like the only 2010 'pop star' who still mkaes pretty vulgar music lol i just care about the music, music which, when you shove Rihanna and such onto the chorus of, just isn't that good.

Oh yeah, btw

:facepalm
Eminem isn't that type of person that he was on MMLP anymore.
It's sad that people still expect him to rap about killing his wife, hating faggots, and bashing pop stars.
Ever since TES he's stopped doing that.
And no I'm not mad and you're not funny.

Don't get me wrong, they're solid albums but I just don't think they're on the same level as Illamtic, It Was Written or Stillmatic so I don't consider them classics.
Both God's Son and Hip Hop Is Dead have too many filler tracks.
It's pretty unanimous that I Am and Nastradomous are garbage.
and Untitled is mediocre at best, most tracks were over produced.
I still think Eminem is much more criticized for his weaker albums than Nas is.
Relapse & Encore still get mad hate.

You're an idiot.

co-sign tjthagreat. just becaue an album isnt as good as the last doesnt mean its mediocre. (lol at bgizzles temper) but i agree with the topic of the thread. it is fucked up.

For some reason you seem to think your opinion is factual. It's not.

General consensus among hip hop heads and all the points I mentioned, Nas' has 5 classic albums. If I was to give my opinion, then I'd put a good argument for The FIrm album, Lost Tapes and Nigger album too, but that would just be my opinion. Overall view is that all of Illmatic, It was written, Stillmatic, Gods Son and Hip Hop is Dead are classics.

I'll give you a breakdown, because you seem very off the mark.

Gods Son is viewed just as highly as stillmatic, it was released only a year after Stillmatic and is seen as a part 2 pretty much, the only difference is that Stillmatic had a bigger hype because of Ether and the publicity over that. Gods Son has more substance than Stillmatic anyway, there's not a single filler track in the album and is one of Nas' most balanced albums.

Hip Hop is Dead too many filler tracks? This is getting silly now. If Hip Hop is Dead was anything less than great, Nas would have been laughed out of the industry. I don't know you personally, but I don't know how well you were paying attention to the hype around that album when it came out, because it was common knowledge that if Nas let down with this album, no matter what he would be out for dead. If you come out with an album called 'Hip Hop is Dead', you better come with a classic. And he did, that's why he's still in the industry. Not that many debated the quality of this album.

Also ftw, I am and Nastradamous are not garbage. What the fuck are you talking about? They feature some of Nas' best songs in those albums. The view is that they are way too inconsistent, no one ever came out and said they're garbage.

First of all I NEVER said my opinion was factual it may seem like it but it's just my 2 cents, Nastradomous and I Am had too many holes to be considered good albums, they both had their moments but it was still a weak effort compared to what he has the potential for and why haven't you said anything about Untitled? That shit had some really over-produced tracks.

Yes that's more fair, Nastradamous and I am are not garbage but they are not good albums either. They are inconsistent.

I did mention 'Untitled', I just labeled the album with it's original title of 'n1gger' but it was censored. I said in my opinion it's a classic, but I can understand that it's not viewed as such as in the general hip hop community. That album was seriously made for African Americans and the hardest of Hip Hop heads. If you read Nas' comments around then he let it be known of that fact, and it was probably his most 'raw' work since Illmatic, but it just didn't have the diversity and extreme range of storytelling that previous Nas albums did for it to be considered by general hip hop fans as a classic.

Nas always has overproduced beats, everyone knows it. He never gets good consistent beats, his beat selection is his biggest flaw.

At the end of the day, the overall concept of your initial post is 100% correct, and every great artist has poor albums (including Nas, Ice Cube, Rakim, Scarface, Jay-Z). The only problem is you then made some wrong observations regarding Nas' career, your argument would have been perfect if it was Jay-Z who you were observing.
