Yeah but a popstar selling more, having more #1s or having more views than him doesn't mean anything as... They're not artists.

They're products.

The reason it's less impressive for a popstar to have a #1 single is because they're aiming for that. Their material is compromised, broad and aiming to appeal to as many people as possible.

Where as Eminem is a total individualist, artistically speaking. He presents (in the bigger scheme of things) very narrow-minded views, humour and artistry. It's not material or presentation that appeals to the masses. People just think they can call him a popstar because he's popular.

But his popularity is just a matter of fact, not a result of his aims. So it's MUCH more impressive for Eminem to have a #1 single when he has profanity, realism, violence, twisted humour etc. As these themes aren't easy to swallow for most. So it's the sign of a very important artist that breaks barriers.

Which is also why it's so impressive that MMLP is the fastest selling solo album of all-time. Much more impressive than if it was a popstar. Because MMLP's aim is not to appeal, it's to turn-off. It's to appeal to a very select few, it's an acquired taste. It's totally uncompromised and uncensored, so the fact it's the fastest selling ever, despite that - is amazing.
