What makes an album CLASSIC?

Postby ThomasJ » Oct 18th, '10, 14:26

This has been on my mind for quite some time now...

Obviously it has to be good, but what are some other qualities that make you say : "Wow,this is a classic"? And since everyone has their own classic album,is there one quality that determinates the CLASSIC status?

Also, what 2010 albums do you regard classics?

Cheers. :y:

To me a classic is just an album with no weak songs and you can listen to it over and over. It also has to be something that changes my perspective of Hip-Hop. I would call VERY FEW albums classic. But in 2010; Diabolic-Liar & A Thief is a classic. That album changed the way I wrote my rhymes.

Besides being excellent (not exactly flawless) artistically, musically AND lyrically, the album MUST have some kind of change in the way you think, write, feel, look at things. It MUST influence YOU. And that's what I call a PERSONAL classic. If it's a "WOW" quality-wise album plus it changes you in the ways said above it's a personal classic. If it changes Hip-hop then it's a universal classic.

But, my personal classic is...

EDIT: 2010 classic...

The word 'classic' is fucking stupid and overused.

No point using a word that no-one can define. I mean, you have at least 4 different views of what a classic is in this thread alone.

(And yes, I know I've used the word before, before one of you MikeNUFC Stans searches for a comment in which I've used it.)

I'm a bigger fan of the term 'personal classic'. We all listen and relate to the lyrics differently so what I personally find pointless, you probably worship.
