That's his style now. I like it if he has a reason.

I mean, did you hear that snippet of Crooked's verse? Royces dynamic in the snippet of his verse? Granted, Joell will do his thing on it, which is always dope. Joey gonna drop some creative punchlines and kill it. Eminem? Let's hope he can keep up with them.
I think it'll prove how untouchable he is.
When he's on his own albums he's often trying to construct themes rather than be lyrical for its own sake, but when he chooses to go all out he is anything but fucking overrated, he barely gets any recognition. Relapse is ridiculously good, technically-speaking.
This'll bring the best out of him. Not saying he will out-do them in a breeze but just that when he's on his a-game or forced to be >> everyone. Just like on "Session One", he laid his verse without hearing theirs and whilst they obviously had better verses, they didn't exactly rip him to shreds, despite having sat down frantically trying to out-do him.
I think his classic wit has just been missing due to lack of competition. Now that he's in that environment again, I think we'll be amazed.

He overdid it on LTWYL 2 tho. some of the shouting just sounds unnatural and forced. It was good on the other joints he's released throughout the year, including Recovery ofc.

But, if it's true that he rewrote his verse, I think he realized he can't do anything but to force his a-game up when he's around rappers of this caliber. I can't help but to remain skeptical, though...

What about "Almost Famous" and "Cinderella Man"?
Those are new-heights in some aspects for him IMO.
The writing in "Almost Famous" is pure powerhouse and "Cinderella Man" is so consistent, and it's more astute, there's something more striking about it...
I shut your lane down / took your spot, parked in it too
=
You can hate him, he don't blame you / frankly he would too
That's a step in a much better direction. More self-aware, cocky but mature and assured. I think a lot of Recovery shows a very lyrical Eminem and shades we haven't seen.

Yeah the song was but mainly due to the terrrrrrrrible production.
Swizz Beats is a fucking hack.
I don't see how Em's verses were bad. His flow wasn't as tight as his latest one and there were a few cheesy lines, and of course the constant resorting to sexual acts is predictable and uncreative. But it definitely had the DNA of his old-wit much more than a lot of recent stuff.
For example, the line:
Go take a fucking flying leap of faith off a balcony < awesome.
Is VERY reminiscent of his prime-wit. It reminds me of things like...
Put a knife in an envelope and have you stabbed in the mail
Taking something metaphorical and making it literal. And emphasizing it in an adolescent / rebellious context, it's definitely a sign of good things. Not to mention littering's of other life-loathing lines, much snappier.

mcZu wrote:Lyrically it wasn't even that bad, no. Even the car metaphors were OK, I suppose. What killed me was the delivery, he sounded lazy as fuck, plus it sounded like he was mumbling.
He definitely has some creative ideas, but he doesn't execute them well. Aside of the occasional dope line, he tries to hard, it's almost like he's forcing the wordplay. Making it sound cheesy.

EminemBase wrote:As for him sounding lazy, I don't get that at all. He sounds energized and crafted like he has done since 2009. I think people perceive it as sounding 'tired' due to the voice-straining, but that's different to lazy. Just means he needs to lay back on the shouting.
