Better Rapper Than Em?

Postby Slim's Shady » Nov 13th, '10, 03:57

Name a few rappers that you think are better than Em if any.

In my list the only rapper better than Em is Tech N9ne and maybe Royce. At the moment I think I would say that Royce = Em.

Discuss.

There isn't one.

Royce isn't close. Back in the Bad Meets Evil days, line-for-line, he could certainly give Em a run for his money and arguably sometimes come up stronger.

But since then, it's not even a serious conversation. Royce is a very decent rapper. But he's not a genius, he has limits... he's just a lyricist with a pen. Eminem is a debate topic.

Only mainstream guys in history that even come close to him IMO are Nas and Mos Def. But again, artistically? It's not a serious conversation. They're just close skill-wise. No rapper has made a masterpiece to the effect of The Marshall Mathers LP.

It's not just about track-records or achievements (even artistically) though, I could write a fucking book on each individual technical aspect and sub-aspect... So many reasons. There's so many reasons he's the GOAT. But again, a 10k word post? I can't be fucked. I'm out. Have fun with this shit-storm of a thread.

To each their own man :b:

But, nowadays Em isn't the same he used to be. And I'm really feeling Royce a lot lately.

....I forgot to mention Joe Budden too

Yeah but surely you can't just mean... who's out now? lmao.

If this is going to be a serious or decent discussion of any worth, surely you mean generally-speaking. Because everybody goes through peaks and slumps, just saying who's better than him now isn't much worth talking about.

There are many spitting better lines than him now. I'm talking historically, artistically and all-in-all, everything considered etc "who's best right now" is a 'meh' convo to me.

Joe Budden isn't a better rapper even now though. Coming out with some better lines right now? Sure, but not a better rapper. Rapping is about a lot more than just what you're saying. In terms of flow and delivery, he isn't 10% of Eminem.

Haha holy shit :worship:

When I first opened this thread, I was about to give this thread a facepalm post (because of the possible arguments this was about to cause), but then I read this

Came back to annihilate, the game's in dire straights, as I await
Word on Satan, as I drop, fall to my knees before this Quija board and I pray
Now I lay me down to sleep
I do this shit in my sleep, I’m sleepin' now, imagine if I awake

When I said I'm feeling Royce a lot lately I ment in response to you saying he's not as good as before. The new Royce that worked on Death is Certain, Slaughterhouse album, Street Hop, The Bar Exams is imo WAY better than the older Royce.

But, I guess what you're saying is right but I'd still say Royce and the old Eminem are around the same level. I still think Tech N9ne is better but you're right I should've compared them overall.

Whaaat?

The Royce of the Slaughterhouse album better than old Royce? Nooo way.

His lines are not even close to what they were. Royce used to be a genuine jaw-dropper like Em with the shit he'd come out with, now he's just 'very good'.

But also comes out with his fare share of averageness and cheese. And even though he's stepped up his pace on the flows in many ways, I think he used to sound much better before too.

I personally think Royce's flows and lyrical content on Street Hop and Death Is Certain were better than that of Rock City, Independence Day, and Bad Meets Evil. Don't get me wrong the older Royce is still amazing but I prefer this one. And i thought he did good on the Slaughterhouse album despite some cheesy punchlines.

What I like a lot about Royce is the LOL factor in his punchlines. But, of course that's not the only reason why I would place him up there with Em.

EminemBase is right, Royce isn't as good as he once was either. In the end it all comes down to personal taste, there is no best rapper alive or ever, but what EminemBase said in his first post is exactly why I think Eminem's the best. In my opinion, he is, I like pretty much everything he's ever put out, I even kinda like Encore, but Encore is not a good album at all by any means

It's all about perception and how you feel when you listen to them. I think Eminem is the best. But I know he is not. It's the same way LilWayne4Life thinks Lil Wayne's the best. It's how he perceives Wayne's music. Obviously he's not as smart as others, but I mean you'll never change anyone's mind on here

This is why I :facepalm this thread. Nothing against the OP, I know you had good intentions, but this argument would literally be 20 pages of nothing but everyone's opinions and no one agreeing on anything

There isn't a best rapper ever but I bet if a bunch of rap experts (whatever that means) got together and discussed every aspect of rap and had to come up with a best rapper ever then Eminem would win.

Just because this is an Eminem forum doesn't mean I can't ask this "forbidden" question.

And I didn't ask for a GOAT instead of Em. I asked who do YOU THINK is better than Em.

Not who is better than Em. There's a hugh difference.
