Recovery:

Worked with Dre only one.
Had romance songs like LTWYL & Space Bound. I would have never thought he would have made these songs.
Least commercial album ever. I guess Not Afraid somewhat but I don't understand how LTWYL is a radio song. Tie her to the bed and set the house on fire? Yeah, lets put that on the radio for the kids.
No skits.
Saying he would have been beat by other rappers if he would have disses them, showing weakness.
No D12.
No 50 Cent.
Only one verse by another "rapper".
Everybody featured on it was an Eminem noobie.
Just overall had things on it that I would have NEVER thought would be on an Eminem album.

I could go on and on. Probably his most experimental album yet. Let just throw Dre out (pretty much), throw out everyone that's usually featured on his albums, no skits, no radio tracks, etc.

Recovery less commercial than MMLP or SSLP? I don't think so.

I do agree that Recovery isn't commercial like people try to make it out to be but MMLP and SSLP are WAY less commercial.

I think I read somewhere on here that My Name Is and The Real Slim Shady were made for the radio in about 20 minutes or something. Radio songs. Not dissing the songs, I love them, just saying.

Like I said, it's just because his edge has worn off a lot. People are used to him. But his words are like a fucking sledgehammer to the head.

Kanye is more willing to change lanes to bigger degrees, I'd agree with that. Em has also reinvented his styles every album but needs to take bigger leaps into new areas now. But it's because Kanye has a more artistic, inspired background. He's more worldly and informed.

Perhaps I should've worded it better. I'm not talking about lyrics. When I say daring, I mean that Kanye's willing to step outside of his comfort zone to make a pop album. Do you see Em experimenting as severe as that nowadays?

Call me crazy, but I think Em is very capable of creating a decent rock album if he wanted to. Like you said, Kanye comes from a more artistic and inspired background, but Eminem has a bit of rock in him and has always displayed it in his prior albums. It might rile up fans if he'd make a pure rock album -- however, 808s was a pop album, and look how successful that turned out to be sales-wise. Generally favorable reviews as well!

Yes because like I say - Kanye's background is extremely different.

The reason you see Kanye doing that is he went to art school, and knows a lot of other music besides hip-hop. He's had a totally different kind of background.

Em grew up strictly on hip-hop (and rock), but primarily that one genre was his entire existance. He lived paycheck to paycheck, didn't finish high school let alone go to college and spent every waking minute working out better rhyme schemes and punchlines.

They're two different pepole with different aims and intent. You can of course draw comparison in certain aspects of their attitude and things they've done and for what reasons but they're still very different. Eminem isn't in love with cultural art like Kanye is, he doesn't have the same passion for fashion and imagery as a whole.

I don't necessarily think that Em is limited to rap based on his background. Yeah it might not be his intent to explore other genres of music, but did anyone foresee Wayne making a rock album? That's way out of his territory and he probably never imagined that he'd make a rock album in his career. Anything can happen..

Like Em, I'm sure Wayne grew up solely on hip-hop (& maybe rock). I dislike Wayne as a rapper, but I appreciate how he's willing to try something that's incredibly out of the ordinary (Rebirth). But since Em has completely different motives than both Kanye & Wayne, I don't expect him to make a rock album. As a fan though, it'd be shocking and exciting for him to release an album that's not entirely hip-hop based.

Eminem.

He is a better rapper.

Lyrics: Eminem by far shits on any rapper with his lyricisim.

Skill: Kanye Has the worst breath control on a rapper i ever seen,he has no multies can go bars without even rhyming, has no skill it all.

i can write a book about Em's skills.

BUT THIS IS NOT WHY I LISTEN TO KANYE.

so this is not a fair argument.

As somebody already said:
Musically Kanye >
Lyrically Eminem >

Consistent goes to Kanye in my opinion
Eminem has released the best album (MMLP) between the two artists
Same sword they knight you they gon' good night you with
Sh.., Thats' only half if they like you
That ain't even the half what they might do
Don't believe me, ask Michael
See Martin, see Malcolm
You see Biggie, see Pac, see success and its outcome
See Jesus, see Judas; see Caesar, see Brutus
See success is like suicide
Suicide, it's a suicide
If you succeed, prepare to be crucified

Debut: Slim Shady LP > College Dropout
Sophomore: Marshall Mathers LP > Late Registration
Third: Eminem Show > Graduation
Fourth (Both has their worst albums) Encore < 808's and Heartbreak
Fifth Relapse < MBTDF

and Recovery has yet to have a matchup

Em wins...by a mile...musically and lyrically

Not sure if this compare is fair lol.Would have been more controversial if we would compare Nas with Em.
To answer your question,Em is way over Kanye.I don't like Kanye,so it's pretty simple for me lol :coffee:

As I already said...

I could compare Em / Nas but Nas hasn't had close to the impact culturally or commercially - There needs to be a other attributes for comparison as I'm not saying lyricist vs. lyricist or rapper vs. rapper. I'm just talking about their discography and quality / quantity as a whole.

This isn't a lyricist vs. lyricist thing. I'm not saying who's the better rapper, that's obvious. I mean, artistically - everything taking into account. As a lot of people prefer Kanye's MUUUSIC.

Nas hasn't had a huge impact like they have. He's respected within hip-hop, but like I said, this isn't a rapper vs. rapper thing. It's a discussion of back-catalog etc.

Also - This isn't me asking a question. It's not like I'm going "guys help me I can't decide!". I know what I think, to the core - As I know what a lot would think - But it's just a discussion to open up as you can't assume everybody thinks the exact same as you.

Kanye is a better artist and musician, Em is a better lyricist, rapper, and entertains me more. Ranking all their albums (though they are not similar so comparisons are hard)...

MMLP
TES
LR
MBDTF
SSLP
TCD
Recovery
Graduation
Relapse
808s
Encore

Eminem is my favorite artist. Kanye is my second favorite. However, I think I'd take Kanye's discography, to be honest.

The Eminem Show
College Dropout
The Marshall Mathers LP
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
Late Registration
Recovery
808's
Relapse
Encore
