I think Em showing his appreciation in the form of a few verses like this is the least he can do and the way he did it was very genuine and heart-felt. About a man that like he repeatedly says "saved his life". He was getting turned down by everybody because he was white, OD'd, wanted to give up - Then Dre heard him, gave him a chance and... ala Eminem.

We can only appreciate that from an outsiders perspective also. To Em, no doubt he's deeply and forever thankful, he not only saved his life but he made it so Em could provide for his daughter and (then) wife. Of course he's gonna be emotional.

That's what I was thinking.

That's why I said "whoever wrote it". Because it doesn't sound like Em's writing to me. It's too loose and sloppy and doesn't have any of his snap-wit.

I think given the content of the song and its honesty, Dre maybe wrote his out of principle as it would be very weird to have Em writing as Dre, about himself. And kind of wrong.
