Yeah that IS uncreative actually. Following the crowd is the most uncreative thing you can do as it's trying to fit in as opposed to trying to stand-out.

Lmao, you just answered your own fucking question. There's nothing wrong with having a hit, but there's something wrong with aiming for one.
Aiming for hits is what compromised genres do.
It's what artists who sing and have no actual passion for the creative process do. Aiming for a hit means you're compromising many things to aim to please a lot of people at once. Making it broad, unoriginal and uninteresting. By bringing on those guys it's quite clear that's what he's going for. That's why.
