Tupac wasn't a deep poetic dude but a cocky gangster? Tupac was extremely poetic in nature. When talking about Ride or Die type tracks, Tupac was painting a vivid image of how life in the hood can be. He puts you in the mindstate of the drug dealer running the corner or the Gangbanger running the block, because he felt they didn't have a voice.
Tupac did do some things that promoted the thug lifestyle and I can't fault him for it but I instead fault Suge Knight and Death Row for it. Tupac didn't get all hardbody, untouchable, gangsta-gangsta until Suge came into the picture and bailed homie out. I honestly believed Suge and his goons at the label brainwashed Pac to follow the routine. I believe Makaveli was his way of escaping the brainwashing going on within the industry, Suge, etc. etc.
Pac was a philosopher, a poet, a voice of the streets, a voice of empowerment and on top of that a human being. Humans are faulted and any negativity promoted by him can be excused because of that. Eminem is all of a sudden the apple-pie, faultless role model? Some of the content Em talked(s) about is twice as explicit as that of Pac's and much more grotesque and insane.
I look at both Pac and Em as artists....Poets of the Modern Age.
While I enjoy Em slightly more as an overall artist I have always stated that I believe Pac was the better of the two. But this is all opinion.

"I'm not trying to be the next Tupac."
"I think that honestly, Tupac was the greatest songwriter that ever lived. He made it seem so easy. The emotion was there, and feeling, and everything he was trying to describe. You saw a picture that he was trying to paint."-Eminem

Well, you don't like his voice. That's just your personal preference.
I can't hate on you for that just as much as respectful Eminem fans can't hate on people for not listening to Eminem because of how his voice sounds.
And if you haven't heard a track as poetic as Eminem's work then you obviously haven't listened to very much of 2Pac's material.
Look up "The Rose That Grew From Concrete" and then speak on how poetic you think Tupac is....

YOUR personal preference....
If I said "Eminem's subject matter bores me to hell. Haillie, Kim, Mom. Not my stuff".
You can't hate on me for that, but you would think I have a really big misconception about Eminem's music because that's not all his music is about.
Same logic can be applied to Tupac, except it would be even more appropriate because Tupac touches on much broader issues than Eminem does.
