To be fair, it's very cliche to say how great Pac was, and to make a thread saying that Pac is better than Em. He was great, but not the best. Pac stood up and made music for a particular audience, which is (not to sound racist, because I'm not) black urban teens and young adults. That's not to say only black people listened to Pac, but that's what his music appealed to. Whereas Em appeals to almost everyone. Pac was real, probably the realest rapper there ever was, but Em is a better rapper and lyricist. Em might not be making classics like Pac was, but based on pure skill alone, prime Em would give Pac a run for his money. Even today, I believe Em has the potential to make every song a classic. He just really needs to get back into the flow of things. He obviously still has his storytelling abilities, as we all see in Relapse, and for the record, Pac could never write a song as lyrically complex as Stay Wide Awake or Music Box. Pac is one of the greatest storytellers, I'll definitely give him that, but better rapper? I don't think so. But, music is objective

Ok, the REAL question is this:

Would tupac still be considered great if he didnt die? if he would've lived long enough to put out some shitty albums / songs

and

What would we think of eminem if he died directly after putting out 'the eminem show'? Surely people would've said he was the greatest person to ever pic up a mic hands down, because at that point... there wasnt a single song that wasn't short of amazing...

Its like that saying.. You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain

If you die in your prime everybody loves you... lets face it... you're only as good as your last song

Album wise i think 2Pac has a better catagoury.

All eyez on me, Me against the world and The 7 day theory
VS
MMLP, SSLP and TES

All eyez on me , easily the best hip hop album ever MADE

That's your opinion. The reality is that Em's Marshall Mathers LP and Big's Life After Death were the two best hip hop album ever.

Let me get this straight, the OP thinks all Pac albums are classic (LOL), all his posthumous albums are nearly classics (LOL), Encore is amazing (LOL) and thinks that "Em is talented at spitting a lot of rhymes per syllable" (which doesnt even make sense).

Pac is overrated as fuck. Why do rappers get praised loads for their content alone? I could think of a good content. It's if you can rhyme with that good content that's important.

He had monotonous flows and lyrics. He was BORING AS FUCK. Racism this, streets that. Dude has so little variety yet is praised as a genius? He's talented, but never used that talent properly. All Eyez On ME has to go down as the most overrrated hip hop album ever - his only great album was Me Against The World.

I wish he rapped more like he did on Violent.

I'm pretty sure he meant that Em is talented at spitting multis...which he is

But everything else, I pretty much agree with. Pac is great, but he's mad overrated, Biggie was way better, Big was actually a storyteller

2Pac was IMO the most fun rapper to listen to altough he kind of repeats himself a lot . Anyways ofcourse he is overrated because he died, but this is because we never got to see his bad music when he got older, I mean if Em had died after TES people would be saying he was the greatest :shifty:
I think 2pac was an inspirational figure in hip hop and in the world he was more self aware than anybody was (or showed) at that time,

"i know i can't change the world myself, but i will spark the mind that changes the world."

2pac is a legend and that´s never gonna change but is unfair to compare them right now because Em is alive and people love to praise the dead ones

1. Eminem's shitty album (and YES it was shitty...calling Encore anything less than complete shit is a credibility-ender) was made when he was on pills. It doesn't count. If Tupac had been popping 20+ ambiens, valiums, vicodins, and methadone pills per day and was two hours away from death then we could compare their work in that state. Otherwise, it's completely non-sequitur. It's an Ambienem album. Ambienem was garbage.

2. As I've been saying repeatedly for years...anyone in the world can rap ABOUT something. It's how WELL you do it that's important. Whether you like to the content or not is just personal preference. Skill-wise, on the other hand, there's no debate. Eminem isn't just "slightly" better.

A little off topic...but I'm just wondering....Is there even any real proof that Eminem was hooked on drugs, let alone popping 20 pills (or whatever ridiculous claims he make) daily?

Eminem stans should be defense attorneys. They won't win the case but they'll go the extra mile.

I guess you believe 9/11 was an "inside job," too, huh?

No, you're right, no proof at all. The media articles on his hospitalization; really it was just the "pneumonia thing" after all. He just lied about being nearly dead from overdosing on methadone because...it's KEWL, yo.

THIS GUY on pills?

no WAiiii!!!!!!!!

Sorry, your registered sex offender hero doesn't compare with the greatest lyricist of all-time. Yes, it's too bad he was killed as he was actually starting to get dope toward the end of his life...he's a "what could have been."

Like it's been said before 2Pac's audience is for another audience. Eminem's music is for an another audience, I enjoy both but most Eminem fans will say 2Pac is overrated while the rest of the world disagrees with them. Most 2Pac fans will say Eminem is overrated while some of the world agrees with them.

So, though I agree with the OP, this thread was suicide.

I 100% agree that 2pac is better than Eminem, but i disagree on the point that Eminem's catalog has been garbage lately. It has been nothing short of amazing, though it may not live up to his earlier classics, like the SSLP, MMLP, TES, it still dominates anything else being put out in rap these days, aside from maybe Tech N9ne.

Now of course i am probably older than some of the people in this forum, being 23, but im sure there are plenty of you in here who were raised on tupac. I think it's the biggest shame in history that Tupac died at the age of 25. He was the realest out there, and was just getting harder and harder with his lyrics, and then he was taken from the world. I don't believe that Tupac gets the respect he's deserved these days, as his music is rarely if ever played on radio, and kids think Lil Wayne is real. haha.

lmao at ppl saying pac is overrated . Give yourself a good week to really take in his music, and you will change your mind on that one. If anything, he is madly underrated today, because everyone thinks he's a legend for no reason. Turn off your reality tv and listen to some real music.

Eminem was not only bigger/greater than Tupac but he was even bigger/greater than the Rιvilry Τupac vs Biggie.
Eminem 99'-02'>Tupac and Biggie 94'-97'.

Eminem is even bigger than Hip-Hop.Because he is comparable with singers like Michael Jackson,Elvis,Beatles.
His legacy in music is bigger than any Rapper dead or alive.
Em is the GOAT.

Also two Hip-Hop people who were very good friends with Pac said on Eminem
"If he keeps doing what he does now, he will be bigger than Michael Jackson", "some of the hardest nikkas I know think this little white boy is great", "in my whole career i never found anything on demo tapes, till I heard him. I said-find him now" - Dr Dre
"He (Em) fucked him (Jay-Z) awfully on that record. Completely. Like DAMN!I don't want Eminem on my album. I'm cool"-'Renegade' made Snoop Dogg not want to do a song with Em because worried he'd get killed too

Tupac considered by some people GOAT because of his early death and because he was a rebel and deserve credit but Eminem took the Hip-Hop in the Higher level ever back to 1999-2002.
And about Hip-Hop as a music Tupac wasn't nowhere as a skilled MC at copmparisons with Big Daddy Kane,Rakim,Nas,Eminem,Biggie.

You can't state that like fact and expect to have a decent discussion. I could say the exact same thing for 2Pac and you wouldn't prove me wrong. In fact, I'm going to do it.
