it's not the "horrorcore" that makes me like Relapse, it's the incredible rhyming. don't give 2 shits about accents on Relapse or yelling on Recovery. i was sorely disappointed when i heard Recovery only to hear mostly 1 - 2 syllable rhymes.

It's my fav too
I wanted an album so rugged nobody could touch it.
Spent a million a track and went over my budget.
Now how in the fuck am I supposed to get out of debt?
I can't rap anymore, I just murdered the alphabet.

I think Relapse was just easy for him to write, every song on there just kind of flows almost effortlessly. I like Recovery but a lot of it sounds very much like it took a lot of effort to make it, whereas Relapse it sounds like he was in the zone and that's what he wanted to do (considering he made 2 albums worth of songs for it this is probably the case)

I know that when it came out i was a bit unsatisfied just cause i didn't expect his comeback songs to be about ripping fetuses out of women and digesting them but when i listen back to it now it's still very easy to listen to whereas Recovery kinda isn't for me lol. Only thing that used to piss me off is the accent, but it does actually make most of the songs sound better (Bagpipes from Baghdad especially) so i guess i must have got used to it.

I wouldn't say at his best though, his best is obviously MMLP and TES, but his best out of the 2 recent albums i would probably agree.

Also inb4 some faggot comes in and says "omg em cant do anything right 4 u guys!!"

Relapse is underrated but no way is it a masterpiece. It doesn't come anywhere near the first 3 albums, it's good, but nothing special.

"And you can never break my stride, you never slow the momentum at any moment I'm about to blow
You'll never take my pride, killing the flow, slow venom and the opponent is getting no"

"Switch it up, and watch them haters not give it up cuz ya just not good enough. Well I'm not giving up til I get my respect, and I wont stop til I get enough, cuz I'm not livin up to my own expectations"

i guess the word "mostly" doesn't mean anything. a couple parts in each song doesn't stand up the the entire verses of amazing rhymes on Relapse tracks.

Good read, I loved relapse and refill, Amazing content, I loved the serial killer theme.. it was amazing...
it was certainly different to hear that side of eminem, he never did anything like relapse before, and for relapse coming after encore.. cmon now.. its 10/10 compared to encore... Only wish refill had masterd songs like Hell breaks loose and drop the bomb on em, Sound soo un-finished.. but it was still good.. If he swapped a few refill songs with relapse it would have been a classic horrorcore album but its still a great album nonetheless... :y: :y: :y:
And I don't care how many gangsta rap songs you listen to

1.SSLP
2.MMLP
3.Eminem Show
4.Relapse
5.Recovery
6.Infinite
7.Encore

So that pretty much tells what I think about it. Some days I even like it more than the Eminem Show. But I guess nostalgia won't let me move Relapse up any higher than it is.

Great responses so far. And btw, I didn't want to secretly "diss" Recovery in this post (since the content of that album is way different than Relapse), because Recovery is awesome. I just find a shame that Em, probably, won't do more serial killer shit in the future, unless the Relapse 2 songs leak somehow.

Someone say that you can't feel emotion in these songs and I have to disagree with that. That's the weird thing about that, I do feel a lot of emotion with these, which is weird since the topics are so fucked up. Take Insane for example. I mean, there's still some people who believe that was a real song, and that says a lot

Oh, and when I say Em at his best, I really mean it. Em can be at his best in different categories: storytelling of real stuff, emotion, etc. but when it comes to pure, raw creativity, Relapse's horrorcore is more "high concept" and above all the stuff that he's done in the past. I fucking hate when I see reviews or "critics" saying that with Relapse Em tried to be relevant again using "shocking content". They didn't get it. I see the violence in Relapse as a metaphor to how fucked up your mind and you might become from the excessive use of drugs.

Looking at my playlist, Stay Wide Awake is over 1000 plays. Still, everytime I hear it again, it doesn't cease to amaze me.

I've always said this. I know for a fact that Em wrote these songs for more of a reason than just to be writing them
