Why do you want Eminem to revert back to his old self?

We all feel the same way man, but you can't pin that stuff against him and always hold him up to his old shit because we KNOW he won't match the calibre. He may have drive to rap these days, but he doesn't have that starving drive he had back in the day - he NEEDED that drive. He's settled now, set records and has placed his name in history.

Plus he's 10 years older, we can't expect him to be rapping about that same stuff.

Here's what I'm Sayin: Eminem now is not whack, he is the best in the game, but compared to his old self, he is not half what he was... and I don't expect him to be he's 38,

and I even Love Recovery, but I love the other albums more, that's just it

Cold Wind Blows 8/10 : atleast we get to see the shady side of eminem on this song. and it's pretty dope
Talkin 2 Myself: 8/10: I just wished he didn't say the: I almost made a song dissin lil wayne, etc.. almost went at kanye too,.. i would've had my ass handed to me.
On Fire 8/10: Dope song, good flow
Won't Back Down: 4/10: EM's worst song EVER....
W.T.P 7/10: Dunno why all the hate on it, it's funny and listenable
Going Through Changes 9/10: Classic Eminem Song, the best on Recovery BY FAR
Not Afraid: 7/10, A perfect song for a single, I admire that he admits he was in a bad place, but I hate him for saying: That last Relapse CD was ehhh
Seduction 8/10: Awesome Beat, lyrics are ok, but the song sounds great overall
No Love 8/10, Eminem shows why not at his prime he's still the best out there by killin wayne on this track (wayne was alright though)
Space Bound 9/10, come on Interscope, or Eminem paul whoever... this song is pure single material, all the girls love it, the Em stans love it, everyone love it
Cinderella Man 7/10, fuck my last cd that sits in the trash? FUCK U EM stop sayin that DAMN IT... anyway, great beat on the song and it's good
25 To Life 9/10, lol, most of us thought this was bout a girl on the first listen, but what a great way to talk to hip-hop and his relationship with the game itself
So Bad, 7/10, other then a good beat and good flow, this song is normal to good

Pretty much agree with most of what you said. Thats why people are saying "old self." While some of the songs are ok, they just lack that "replay value". But the ones he nails are absolutely awesome.

His songs have no meaning anymore. Not Afriad was about him coming back and kicking the habit while Love the Way You Lie spoke about women in abusive relationships. Almost all of his old songs either had a meaning or told a story. It's not like that anymore. What's up with him singing about love all the time now?

So, wait, what you're saying is you're looking for songs with meaning? Emotional songs? HELLO, half of fucking Recovery has meaningful songs. You think love songs don't have meaning behind them? Check out Space Bound, it has a purpose, it has a story, AND it's about love. We NEVER used to hear Em talking about love. This is new for him, I'd much rather have new concepts than the same old same old

With that being said, Em is definitely better these days. Not that the songs are better, none of these songs even come close to TES or MMLP, but he's a better person, more mature, and in my opinion it sounds like he has his passion back in rapping, which is the key. It's not just "shouting or yelling", it sounds like real anger. I think, given the right beat and subject matter, Em could make a new song feel like it has his old magic. Listen to Cold Wind Blows, that song has some of that "Shady fire" we all wanted. But Em these days is definitely far from garbage. If he's so garbage, how come Recovery has sold over 3 million copies? Apparently, there are plenty of people who don't think he's garbage. What's one spoiled little pissed off fan who will never be happy unless he's rapping with a nasally voice about violence? That was not just directed toward one person, FYI

I wouldn't go just by it, no. But, Recovery's success has opened a lot more people up to his music, so I do think that sales are a small factor. But you are right, some of these people are the same people who like Gucci. I guess they must relate to him, on some level that I don't really want to experience lol.

He's 38 now and has been through so much over the years so what do people expect? The same type of guy and artist to come out of the slum? The so-called old Eminem is dead and buried. It's a natural part of growing up.

Personally I'd like artists to try new things and give their albums different touches which is what Eminem did on Recovery (actually I think he did that on Relapse too with those impersonal horror songs). I swear, if Eminem was a new rapper and Recovery was his debut album, it wouldn't get half the hate it gets.
