Atmosphere anyone?

Postby BabyBLue91 » Sep 20th, '10, 04:57

Im getting addicted to their (sort of new) song. If you havent heard it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7-i-D_0VIo

theyre filled with concept songs that some cateogorize as 'emo' but I dont really like to label it. Personally, I think slug is a very unique & talented rapper. Not sure if anyone here is a big fan of theirs. If so, what are your thoughts/favorite album?

I put Slug up there with Eminem lyrically...

I think Em's flow and punchlines are better, but if you want a great story Slug is the one to turn to.

Especially when you live in Minnesota and bump into Slug & Ant while your seeing a movie or working :D

Slugs great, don't get me wrong but he lacks the diversity and complexity that Em has. Sure he has great concepts and a fantastic talent for storytelling but imo he's not quite on Em's level.

Besides that, my favourite album is Godlovesugly, it's an underground classic but I enjoy hearing his early style on Headshots: Se7en, kinda reminds me of Infinite. Has any one also noticed that the beat to 'Say Hay There' has the same sample as 'Have Mercy' from Raekwon's OB4CL2, both awesome tracks.

Havn't heard any of the newish stuff yet, gonna check it out, cheers.
Fuck yeah, I'm a basket case, and I master this rap shit, 'till my ass gets wasted...

Preordered TAMF EP the first day I heard about it. Slug's one of the greatest storytellers in the history of hip hop. If not, the greatest.

Lemons is beyond a doubt my favorite album ever. The stories on that album are the best ever written in hip hop, imo.

This is the other side of the underground. I really like Slug. He inspired a bunch of stories I wrote back in the day and still influences me when I try to do anything outside of the box.

All. Each atmosphere album has a different sound. If you listen top them chronologically, you will be able to hear and almost visualize slug's growth as an artist. Start with "overcast!", then god loves ugly, seven's travels and then "when life hands you lemons you paint that shit gold" (my favorite album ever.) And finish up with the "to all my friends" ep, which ironically sounds mitte like an album than 90% of albums that are released.

I you'd like, you can look up and dabble into the "felt" series which is slug and murs.

Also, the bad clown mixtapes are dope.
